I hated that so much. It’s another reason I don’t like the Zenos angle as that’s the only reason Asahi showed up there. It ruins a perfectly poignant moment between the two. Guy still would have had to leave but could have been for his own reasons to try to move on. Instead we get random forced third party which resolves nothing.

It resolved how Hermes would be dealt with. That's good enough for me, we fought him THREE times, he needed to get out.

I posted this in a different thread but I think it’s appropriate here too:

The main antagonist was not Meteion. It was Despair itself. Meteion exists essentially as a gameplay mechanic. We as players have to have something to stab and shoot at in the final fight.

Have you ever seen the movie The Neverending Story? Remember The Nothing? That’s the antagonist in Endwalker. Meteion was basically an anthropomorphic representation of the emptiness found in the universe.

This is honestly one of my favorite parts of the expansion (among many other favorite parts). Amon, who I would say is entirely different from Hermes, is a character who in life kinda dodged all actual retribution for their actions, to the point of even going out on top in death (which is something I really hated about Emet-Selch in ShB, but that's beside the point). He's an awful, contemptible man who caused perhaps the worst event in that world's history, and even robbed us of something as little as the catharsis we were hoping to take from beating his ass. Of course, that catharsis would hit so much better if someone actually personally wronged by him were there to enact it, to give that retribution a proper face. And that's kinda hard when your main crime is 'started the apocalypse'.

But then it's solved instantly when Asahi of all people turns up. After all, the most visible singular victim of Amon is probably the guy whose identity he stole and misused, he has every right to be pissed and take a swing. Hell, he kinda gets the retributive justice that Jullus doesn't when faced with Zenos. And... hell, it almost rings better. For all his many, many faults and crimes, Asahi had a genuine love for the Empire and the Brutus family, who gave him a chance in a life where nothing else would. And then Amon comes along and uses the latter to destroy the former, even going as far as to manipulate Asahi's weird, terrible idol. Yeah, if anyone has right to take vengeance on Amon, I think Asahi is top of the (very, very long) list!

In real life, revenge is an unhealthy and dangerous thing that you shouldn't pursue. But in fiction, when you know that it's both A: deserved and B: not going to get return fire? Revenge feels pretty good actually!

This is basically a completely unrelated spiel, except to tangentially touch onto the fact that technically speaking, you kinda can't punish Hermes for his crimes/hubris. At this point his soul has a different face, with very different crimes.

Just a quick correction, an entelechy is a being that can manifest physical effects in response to Dynamis : the Elpis flower changes hues, while Meteion can choose what effect she wants, since she has free will (which is the first being with it!).
