Priorities are why people are frustrated that there are long queues and frequent disconnects.

It means they have to either not play or change their priorities. Some people of which are unable to do the latter and are therefore unable to play. And therefore understandably upset and frustrated.

This is one MMO that is usually very accommodating to players with limited time such as those with full time jobs and families. Just right now it hit an unpredictable player surge a few months prior to an expansion launch. And not just any expansion. An expansion set to end the current story arc. It was a recipe for launch issues.

You can progress in this game pretty far in just 30 minutes to an hour. So the mom with a couple of kids can get in an hour before bed after she's put her kids to bed. Where one person may watch a late night show, she plays FFXIV.

You do not understand what the chip shortage is at all. It is a semi-conductor shortage, something that is used in ALL chips and affects MANY industries. Please do your research on the chip shortage before spreading misinformation.

The lack of data center/server/login capacity falls 100% on SE. They knew of the mass influx of new players/accounts and pre-orders.
Adequate load testing would have clearly shown this would be the result it they launched with the current infrastructure.
Refunds should be issued, not game time. Venting on here constructively is absolutely appropriate.
It would take longer for us to play Endwalker if they had delayed it until they could get the servers. We would likely see a delay of 6 months or more if they did that. Meanwhile, by releasing now, we'll probably see more stable server logins within a month or two. What's shorter 1-2 months or 6 months?

Using the chip shortage as an excuse for a delay is ok, using it as an excuse as to why it’s not going to happen is straight up BS.

My guess is SE did not want to pony up to the increased cost until they knew for sure that the population would stay at a size warranting it - but not increasing the servers they are just screwing themselves over by all the frustrated people leaving.

"We have made considerable investment—even more so than usual—to secure the required hardware, but even so, a long lead time will be needed to prepare the server hardware."

They did pony up, but the lead time is quite long due to the amount they need.

"When it comes to adding new Worlds, we need tens of “server machines” for every World that we add."

Based on how bad the congestion is, they likely ordered several worlds worth of servers, if not more.

OP is 100% correct about this issue, and all I see in response is either (1) People with no full-time jobs who can't empathize and keep up the constant refrain of "just log in off peak times" or "adjust your life, prioritize things" or (2) "...but chip shortage!" when we're talking about a multi-billion dollar corporation and a multi-million dollar net revenue game. Sorry, neither of those responses hold water when you work a full-time 9 to 5 and have bought a product from a company and expect to be delivered the goods.

I think a couple prominent FFXIV streamers have children now... quite the conundrum, hm?

Anybody who says this is the worst launch in mmo history has not played alot of mmos. Is it one of the worse in recent memory? Yes, but it’s not even comparable to the poorly optimized trash heap that was 1.0.

In game though Endwalker has been verey smooth for the majority of players (not everyone, but the majority)

I get the frustration though believe me. I play on Gilgamesh. Was in a queue for 4 hrs and was down to 500 and had to use the washroom only to have a 2002 and be sent back to 7.7k.

You can't read can you? If you quote someone make sure you understand what you are quoting. Re-read my quote.

I am fine with 5-6 hours waiting time. it's what it is.
I am not OKAY setting in front of computer for entire 5-6 hours because random 2002 errors boot you out! it's not acceptable.

I sympathize with you op there are days i don't have the time to wait 3- 4 hours for the queue so i have to play something else. I can not just blame the microchip shortage or covid for this. Se must of known something like this would of happened the moment we had people joining on mass at the tail end of shadowbringer and playing through endwalker and i have seen the rush dealt to this expansion. While it would of been boring and i would be playing less, it is a stark difference from since then to now at launch and at best either log in early and get in or log in later and wait in queue and hope you don't get 2002. I personally would not have launched until those new servers were up. SE wasn't ready to launch and the longer this goes on the further it will cost them. They don't want to estimate but i gather maybe second half 2022 at least for the shortage to end. Not sure ff14 has that long right now. They should be searching for any and all temporary measures that will alleviate the queues.

Square Enix is most likely working on solutions, but the only real solution (getting more servers) isn't likely to happen for a long while due to the issues of lack of supply due to shortages of semi-conductor materials.

Don't be silly, they're obviously twirling their mustaches and laughing at us.
