Long queue times is not really my issue. Not having a grace period when you dc, and booting you out of the game when you get an error. That really has nothing to do with chip shortage, and more coding side that would make our lives easier.
Well the game booting you out on an error is actually kind of related to the chip shortage since the error is occurring due to the congestion of which the chip shortage is a major factor in. The main thing causing problems are the 2002's while you are in queue and those seem to be directly related to the large number of people trying to log in, based on their explanation on the errors in their lodestone announcements. Technically speaking, all of the current issues are issues because of the congestion of which the chip shortage is a major factor in since they really only became issues when the Endwalker congestion began. It's also possible that the game closing on a 2002 is part of a fail safe of sorts.

Also, you do have a grace period if you get 2002'd in a queue. Plenty of times I've returned to a queue after a 2002 in the same spot. It's just not that long of a grace period.

I fully understand that to many this sounds harsh and unsympathetic, but there is literally nothing else to be done at this point. I saved up time at work to take PTO for the two weeks of the EW launch because I knew this situation was going to plummet, and I log in during non-peak hours and get my playtime in then. You either make the best of a bad situation, or remove yourself from the situation. Sometimes that is life.

And beyond anything, vote with your wallet. 14 is a commercial product. Square is a publicly traded company. If anyone is so dissatisfied with this current situation, then use your consumer power and vote that way.
Being a School teacher I couldn't take time. I get up an hour early and play over the morning caffeine. Then I go to work and teach other peoples 7th and 8th graders all day. Fix supper and do my paperwork/planning for the next day. I might try to log in in the evening but so far have had no success. I won't stay up too late. The kids deserve my A game every day at school. On the weekends I can get up early and play for several hours. I count myself lucky in that after next week I am off for Christmas break so I will have a fair bit of time then.

    Patience is the key.

This is not a good situation for them as I am certain they are very aware. Almost snatching defeat from the jaws of success if you will. SE probably wants this fixed as much as we all do.

I agree the errors are the real problem. Most of us will wait in a queue if we are not constantly kicked to the back of the line. The reports I am hearing of people being dumped out of instances and other things while in game are perhaps more troubling as that seems to only have started post maintenance. Sounds like the fix broke something else.

SO now we have SE trying to fix the fix. Not a good look.
if you read their release, they stated, they were not 100% sure this would resolve it as it was a hard problem to trace.

as for trying to fix the fix... please...not a good look?

how many times.. over how many years, has Microsoft released updates that break things, then have to fix the fix they deployed to fix something else. in terms of software companies.. SE is a grain of sand compared to Microsoft... so.. welcome to software. if Microsoft, who has billions upon billions of dollars does that, maybe its something that just happens.

Wasn't a good look on Microsoft either.

I do understand what is going on. Having written software while in grad school I do have a clue how these things happen. The problem is many players of this game don't. All they see is nothing is working and it is getting worse. I was trying to get the point across that SE wants this fixed as much or more than we do. If you have read my other posts I am not one that is frantically screaming about all this.

Patience sadly is a virtue that is lost a lot today. Side note: You're a good teacher for giving those kids your all every day and putting life first.

Everyone just needs to remember that the game isn't going anywhere. It'll be there to play when everything calms down.

No amount of semiconductors will fix that, thats spegetti code.

If the Queue didn't crash, and you knew you could check back every hour or so and go from 8000, to 200 without a crash, you'd evaporate 95% of complaints.

People have a right to be upset about that, however we just don't need to hear it every 2 minutes and the 10 people threatening to quit.
Actually, more semi-conductors and thus more servers would fix that. The main error 2002, is caused by connection instability/packet loss, which implies something like a network collision happening, which would likely increase in probability as more people try to connect. Like this sounds more like a fundamental network issue with too many inbound connections, thus causing the instability/packet loss that results in 2002's. These errors only became more apparent when Endwalker was released when they have likely been around since well before that. What was the difference between now and before Endwalker? The amount of traffic the datacenters are getting. So more servers would actually fix those queue errors.

I agree. plus, the game is fine, its teh login that sucks. plus, we dont know if the login servers are an over all SE team, or a dedicated FFxiv team. given Japanese culture, Yoshi-P isnt going to throw another team under the bus, same for teh servers in general, I am sure they were outsourced and the company that they went with waited too long to get the parts AND notify SE.. Yoshi is unlikely to toss them under either.

I am pretty sure given his history and actual love for his game, the man hasnt been sleeping enough for a week. guarantee he wants this fixed. (probably already offered to sell his soul...)

Live Letters, Announcements, and such if you paid attention to their news feed and the letters Naoki Yoshida wrote to us rather recently about Errors and Congestion.

I understand the outrage that is not getting to play your game immediately as soon as you buy it because you're hype about it. The reason why people are getting 2002 errors is simple, as said in the letters Yoshida gave us, summarized: They prevent the Game Servers from crashing and becoming unplayable, and requiring emergency maintenance.

It should be obvious which is worse because it literally kicks everyone out and prevents them from playing the game, compared to trickling through the queue.

Again, the servers are always stressed whenever they've launched a new expansion, and considering that they're wanting to pay more for semiconductors and there being a shortage, welp; there you have it. Yoshida and his team were already trying to rush getting the semiconductors to make the servers they need to handle the kind of load they're dealing with now probably after the player influx when Blizzard shot themselves in the head for WoW alongside the allegations they are facing.

All the dev team tries to do is give their best; this is known since Yoshida does a Live Letter a bit after launch to announce anything new going forward, as well as recap on issues and the like. Every time there's been an expansion release, I've heard this phrase from his lips: "Our team has been working around the clock."

This means they are doing all they can to make sure the launch is clean, even if it is rather muddy right now.

Give it a week or two, then come back. The game time they are giving means this:

For $15/30 Days - It's 50 cents a day you're paying. Multiply by 7 days, and you get $3.50 - a 23.3% refund, and it goes to everyone who has game time currently in the game.

For $30/60 Days - Same $3.50, except it's a 11.6% refund in this case. Still, a refund is a refund.

This is for the current situation - and if they compensate any more days, I will add them here for how much revenue may be lost based on how many days they compensate for us.
I feel they need a new excuse or something.

For those who skip to the back, I've added a quote to the OP that I believe is important to understand which was posted in this thread.

I just had PTSD from a patch Microsoft rolled out that would start causing installed versions of Outlook to not remember the user's Windows credentials and block them from accessing email. I was a junior sysadmin at the time, in charge of about 1000 desktops and laptops and another three dozen servers scattered across 20 small companies. I had to write a batch script to roll back that patch from every system, and then use our NOC software to block the installation of that particular windows update for a full year before Microsoft finally fixed it. And that was the actual solution from Microsoft! "Eh, just uninstall it and don't reinstall it, it's not a security patch, it was just supposed to fix something in the background that would occasionally not work."
