    I would like to see more permanent transit capability between the source and first as well;

Like, were I the actual WoL and this not a game, priority 1 would be to establish a permanent portal to allow people to reunite etc... but more importantly to get Chai and Cid together to create my Power Armor.

From there the next expansion will open with all players being forced to create entirely new alts to play though the new MSQ with. An ARRR if you will.
So we're going to the shadowlands

Anyone figure out what the setup for the next arc is?

I thought it was Emet-Selch telling you before the last dungeon about other places in Eorzea you need to visit. It might also be the Ea talking about the heat death of the universe.

Text in spoilers don't count towards minimum character sizes.
we're due for a power level and stakes reset. Prepare for some recovery and smaller stories to cleanse the pallette. But yeah emet selch's speech basically said that the devs weren't giving up on those locales. I don't expect a fate of the universe story within the next 10 years.

    About the universe
I am not sure why the future death of the universe would be a plot point. That would be millions of years away.

But I agree that the things that Emet said might be the places we visit.

Emet-Selch asking if we were familiar with Meracydia's current state of affairs felt like the biggest tease to me, since most of the other places sounded like lands we might visit just for adventure's sake, not to shine hope where it's needed.

Given that that the terminus beasts don't simply vanish with the passing of the Final Days, I feel like there could be lands outside of Aldenard that were stricken badly and still suffering from the fallout because the knowledge of the other continents seems scarce at best.

This, bigtime. The other lands most likely didn't have unity and/or a group like the Scions to clean up the messes, so janitor duty might be in order for us going forward. Merycidia, the New World, the Southern Islands, etc. Not glamorous, not a world ending threat, but something we would feel duty bound to do, while still being a "new" adventure.

Plus, you never know, all those places might have some REALLY good grapes for us to taste.

I honestly won't be surprised if they even lacked Primal problems until the Final Days kicked in.

Our knowledge of the world has always been limited to Eorzea and anyone involved with Garlean Empire near Eorzea but we never gone into the lands beyond that the Garleans have yet to touch nor get much mention about

I would definitely like the next story arc to just be the Scions dealing with more local problems and exploring the world, instead of dealing with world or universe ending threats.

Especially considering the threat we just defeated is the incarnation of nihilistic apocalypse. Like what else would there be left after that?

Otherwise the story will start to suffer big time. It's the issue WoW has faced, after WOTLK they had to dig deeper into fluff lore to find villains and it went off the rails becoming bad since they delayed fighting the villain setup by Warcraft 2 for 4 expansions instead filling with with stuff from the appendixes of the Warcraft 3 manual. Then after that its just nonsense. The MCU is dealing with it too because nobodies gonna be able to really live up to Thanos and as well acted as Kang is he's a bit too comical. Really comic books in general have a huge issue with it. The Star Wars sequels suffered this as well both in its old EU books and the new movies. A ton of animes that go on for too long have this issue as well, which is why the more well regarded series tend to run for at most 200 episodes and the kino stuff is 25-60 episode series.

I agree that continuously raising the stakes will just be... comical, at one point. I'd like the future arc to take a step back and have the WoL return to their adventuring roots: exploring for the sheer joy of it.

If I was hyped for any part of Emet's teases, it was... ok, everything, but in particular the "golden cities" in the New World, which sounds like a huge reference to El Dorado. And if the New World is the American continent (or "the Americas" if you're from the country that named itself after the continent) there's a crapload of stuff to explore. The Nomadic tribes in the north are very different from the Settlers in the South, even if this is a New World pre-colonization. Of course, we already had a Mayincatec civilization in Ronka, so another one in the New World may be too similar-yet the myth of El Dorado is specifically thought to be in Colombia, also parts of Venezuela and Brazil... or it could be about the Seven Cities of Gold in what's now the New Mexico desert aaaand I'm rambling.

Point being, there's still a lot of undiscovered places in... the world that we don't need to go looking for lost civilizations in the stars. Heck, the map of Ilsabard is STILL covered in clouds over 4 years later.

Emet was right, we haven't even explored most of the KNOWN world

Not to mention, we also have Dalmasca and specifically Valnain to visit... Fran owes us an invitation. :^)
