I would accept this as a legitimate reason if not for one simple reality.

The game has seen steady and increased rate of growth for several years. Like any business of their size, they have a department that monitors MAU, market trends, and related aspects.

They have known for YEARS that they need more servers. The sudden spike that happened this year (2021) was going to happen eventually just based on how streamers were becoming increasingly disenfranchised and disinterested in WoW. But that sudden spike only ADDED TO the ALREADY EXISTING NEED to add new servers. The need for new servers didn't suddenly pop into existence because of the 2021 spike. It's been a need for several years already. If SE would stop robbing the FFXIV coffers to keep their other franchises on life support, we wouldn't even be seeing 2002, 4004, or any of the other errors because those problems would already be fixed.

Stop making excuses.

((inb4 people that don't understand what market analytics is and that it doesn't predict plandemics, chip shortages, etc but it does predict needs based on gathered data over long periods which FFXIV has had plenty of for a long time))
