I think they'd have to investigate that possibility. (though, I don't doubt that there are just THAT many people trying to play lol)

I could be completely wrong (don't think I am) but was the game not delayed because they knew this was going to happen and were trying to figure it out in the twelfth hour? I mean I recall a video of Yoshi P bowing and apologizing (which I appreciated don't get me wrong) and I swallowed that pill, but here we are servers crashing and people not being able to get in the game. Yes I know folks are going to blame it on a chip shortage, but what it boils down to the last three expansions and early releases have been disasters. And I'm sorry I've been around since the disaster that was the original game, so 7 free days just seems like a slap in the face. Maybe I just haven't learned my lesson that they don't care once you hit that submit payment button.

Now I know there will be the white knights that will defend SE until their dying breath, and I get it. I to use to defend SE and Yoshi P. But this is just not worth it anymore.

I think the compensation is probably needed at this point. Friday was fine for me to a degree. I was too tired and logged off after a couple of hours and came back in the evening. Spent 5-6 hours trying to get on yesterday, and we're up to 9 hours of queueing and getting kicked because of lobby errors today, so no ff14 for me today. Is what it is kind of. I still feel that they could have got the servers if they wanted to though. Global shortage of semi-conductors didnt stop me from getting a new pc earlier in the year, so it's not as if you CANT get new hardware. Maybe they were hoping they genuinely didnt need it, but i guarantee that they do need it. After all, they added an Oceania data centre, so they had enough servers for that new data centre? Why not an extra server or 2 for each of the other data centres. Doesn't seem like a great hardship to me.

Honestly this all wouldn't be so horrible if I could actually get through the queue. The worst part is getting kicked out, over and over and over, and being shunted to the back of the line.

They've already paid for more servers, tho. An entire OCE data center, probably at least another dozen worlds.

But they can't install what hasn't been produced.

In all likelihood, they've already prepared or gotten approval to acquire more servers for EU, too. But, new hardware isn't something that just happens overnight, or in a week, or even a month. Even without shortages you'd be looking at several months of lag time between "we need new servers" and "new servers are up."

Yup. That would be the entire OCE data center. Anything more than that would never have happened until sometime next year at best.
