I'll never understand why some people are so against the MSQ being optional. If you wanna do the MSQ, do it, what would it take away from you if people had a choice?

im baby
Exactly this, if you make it expensiv enough so that only people who really want this buy it, it wouldn't even affect the dungeon quest. Sooner or later we are all finish with the story and can do all the other stuff that we really enjoy ingame. The story is just an introduction into the expansion anyway and keeps you only busy for about an weekend. How would it affect you guys if someone skipped this weekend and instantly starts playing the new End Content on their alt?
Because several people in this community have an odd attachment to the MSQ that extends beyond their own enjoyment. FFXIV is a "story based game." Therefore, everyone must play and enjoy the game for its story. Nothing else matters. It's not unlike people who simply cannot fathom how you dislike Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Marvel or whatever else. While it's understandable to an extent. People who thoroughly enjoy something often want to see how other feel about it. Some... take it too far and demand you enjoy it.
I'm someone who has always vouched for an optional MSQ despite also loving this game's story and lore. I just don't see the need to force that onto others who simply enjoy raiding, social aspects or whatever else tickles their fancy. Yes, yes, I know raids aren't out at the moment but I'll admit, I'm not looking forward to grinding my alt through Endwalker for when Savage does release.
