It's not a solution as SE already promised to retain all character data, inactive or not, so that any progress made will still be there in 2.0 for people who return.
Now..after 2.0 hits...sending out that e-mail would be a great idea.

SE should take all dead accounts and move them to sever F. And keep all there info and when they come back to play then they can select a server that has an open spot.
This is basically what SE originally wanted to do...though without the intent of allowing inactive players to choose once/if they reactivate.
The community lashed out at SE for not considering inactive players who might return.
So we have the current merge.
Just because you don't have any inactive friends, means mine have to suffer? FTW!#1 all accounts that were cancelled before pay to play should be rerolled. This is a pay to play game, not free anymore and most people cancelled there account so they didnt have to pay. This wold open up spots on all server and not just a few but alot. This is a start and needs to be done.
Most are planning to come back ater 1.21 to try it out atleast, the rest are waiting for 2.0.
Boo to you sir.
OMG, what are some of you smoking? The absolute last thing SE should be doing is anything that might deter somebody from resubscribing. Delete old character data, well, you just pretty much guarantee that those people won't be coming back.. ever.
Instead what they should do is start sending emails to these people telling them to check out all the new features, jobs, dungeons, gobbou mount, etc. etc.. Anything they might have missed since they quit playing. All on "new, more populated servers".
Heck, do what games like EVE and Aion do. Re-activate them for a free weekend, send em an email and tell em to come check it out.

I just moved my inactive character and got a friend on to my server. It works.
SE should definitely not listen to you because this was one of the main reasons the majority of people opted for the transfer option they did.
Suck it up and keep checking for the server you wish to transfer to.
So your inactive friends the want to "try it" out come before those who are paying for the game who are t apart of the community and support it.

If you ordered it online, and on sale, and have payed for two months, you still haven't payed as much for the game as somebody who pre-ordered a collectors edition and played until the end of free service.
