Things for Sprouts as a Sprout

Hello. I started Nov. 5 and just finished the Seventh Umbral Era. I only have one main job, and that's Summoner.

The list below are some of the things I have learned and still don't know through trial and error to just about... yesterday. Please bear with me while I share my embarrassing moments and be patient with us Sprouts.

1. I can use Legacy and move around like a real person. I struggled so much at the very start with just moving around the map and going backwards awkwardly. I found out about Legacy on day 5.

2. Skipping dungeon cutscenes is a thing? Thank you, configuration. I can also hit esc.

3. Oh, I can target by hitting Tab.

4. Oh, I can set a keybind to Target closest enemy. Found that out a week ago.

5. Before I went into Titan for the 1st time for my MSQ, I watched a video to know how I should proceed. I still failed. Got hit with the blue line thingy in the 1st minute of entering and fell off the edge. I could have sworn I hit strafe in time. I apologized, and everyone was so nice about it I couldn't believe it. I was too afraid to ask for a rez. So I just watched.

6. Realized later that there is no rez in that situation.

7. One guy in a dungeon said return. Everybody left. I was like, where's the return button? Do I have to walk all the way back?So I timidly asked, how do I return? Oh, I need to type /return. Okay. That was neat.*That was 1.5 weeks ago.

8. Was trying to fulfill requests in Grand Company by buying the required items in the shop when I realized, I can make this stuff myself. Why are people selling them so high?

9. Wait, I have to kill mobs in dungeons to fulfill my Grand Company Hunt Log? There's a log for that? Where is it? I looked and then, oh, that's where it is. I didn't know I can click that. That was 4 days ago.

10. I recently went into a lv 27 dungeon as a Summoner and encountered level sync. It was kinda a nightmare and I was struggling since my Garuda egi couldn't do anything. I wonder now and greatly appreciate those who do duty roulette, not knowing what dungeon you'll end up in.

11. I was recently in the Qarn dungeon and tried my best to stay away from red lines and mobs and such, but one moment I'm at full health and then 0. Still dunno how that happened. My apologies to the AST.

12. I thought I had to stay and wait at the spot where I got the MSQ Duty. I don't actually have to.

13. So I can die in a dungeon and just restart after my PT blazed past me with all the mobs and go back to them by clicking yes? I was told to leave duty all this time. I figured it out by being curious and clicking yes one day, that was yesterday.

I have more but I don't remember them all right now. Share your own newb/Sprout discoveries. I try my best to read up on things. But the information out there is so much and then not enough and they don't exactly apply to a particular situation. Thanks for reading.

The /return thing in Haukke Manor always bothered me. It's literally the only Dungeon in the game you need to do that (unless you like walking all the way back).

Which is a shame because other than that I really love that spooky dungeon.

One thing you might want to add to your list that frequently gets overlooked by new players: retainers are both your bank and your way to sell items on the marketboard (auction house) - will not apply to players using the Free Trial.

As soon as Minfilia says she's setting you up with approval to hire retainers - go do it!

If you're talking about the first boss, the room wide AoE applies Doom. You have about 10 seconds to run to a glowing floor tile or you automatically die.

There are so many little things like this that it can help being in the novice network to ask these questions. You can ask anyone with a crown to invite you to it if you are not in there. You can also join a free company that is aimed at new players.

Don't worry about being confused about these things. Most new players are confused by the same things so we are very used to it. When a sprout dies it's normal and expected and we just res them. Confusion about /return is normal too in that dungeon.

In regards to things like system config and options it could atleast direct people to look there to customize settings and UI.

Duty mechanics however are something that doesn't get a tutorial in regards to individual bosses. The people running them the first time when the content was new had to figure them out by observing everything around them. Taking the first boss of Qarn as an example. The 3 tiles in that room are completely inactive until it uses the room wide attack that causes doom for the first time. Then 1 tile will light up and it will switch every few seconds for the rest of the fight. So tip I'd give is to keep an eye out for details during boss fights. There's a number of them that have visual queues to let you know what is coming.

It's worth noting that, on Titan (as well as three other trials you'll encounter in Heavensward), if you fall off the edge, you can't be raised. Your body is still down in the pit and out of the healer's reach. Eventually, the developers realized this was kind of a bad idea, and later trials will put your body back up on the platform after a few seconds, allowing you to be raised to rejoin the fight.

It's worth noting that, on Titan (as well as three other trials you'll encounter in Heavensward), if you fall off the edge, you can't be raised. Your body is still down in the pit and out of the healer's reach. Eventually, the developers realized this was kind of a bad idea, and later trials will put your body back up on the platform after a few seconds, allowing you to be raised to rejoin the fight.

Haha, I remember when our camera view was down there, too. That was impetus to learn to avoid Landslide ASAP. I was happy when they changed it later so you could at least watch the fight.
