It was a farm party too, I always expect people to screw it up if people are learning and sprint across but it was the fact that it was a farm party and the shere level of confidence in how right he was that was surprising lol.
Afterwards he didn't even say anything I was basically like ''........ What did I say? '' and got no response.

Copied Factory

I just had a Copied Factory run which didn't really go wrong, but the mentor in my group was annoying. Incredibly annoying. They were a WHM and proceeded to annoy everyone by going on a rant in Alliance Chat about oeople not rolling on loot, that it takes up space on their UI and if you're not rolling on loot, then you're a troll. He not only did this, but also got on this Lalafell player in another alliance who was basically telling them to calm down and then proceeded to call him a pedophile for playing a lalafell.

Also, this WHM proceed to Rescue me every time I was bored in the intermission phases to press Improvisation (since I was on my DNC). He also had a really cringe macro every time he popped wings "You are under my protection!" with a little art of wings, so it basically blocked up chat every time. Luckily I had my sound off, because I'm pretty sure it had an annoying ding every single time he popped wings.

Hopefully I never run into him again lmao

I'm noticing I'm gettin nitpicky. Rolled into Experts as AST, got Paglth'an with WAR, SAM and SMN. SMN is new.
After usual greetings tank asked if they can pull big. "Sure", I say, it's a routine anyway, especially with WAR. As they grab both first packs, I notice I can't just no brain Gravity for the whole dungeon: there's no Nascent Flash. At least there's other DCDs. Including Raw Intuition.
"Okay", I think, "probably testing me, no worries". Nope. No NF for the whole run.
I rarely have to use both my EDs on trash pulls no matter the tank, even rarer I need to stretch a finger towards Benefic II, but this WAR managed to pull it all out of me.
Why? Cuz who needs to stand in stars anyway.
It could've been a very long run, but DPS was decent, so it wasn't that bad. Finished, goodbyes, scatter. Probably could've give that tank an advice, but eh.
I think at this point I'm just spoiled by WARs who don't need healing.

Our healer is a mentor white mage. This is instantly a red flag, as mentors are usually on the lower end of the spectrum.

This is such a widespread bias. Mentors aren't necessarily worse than other players. Sure there are some bad mentors here and there, but they're not nearly as numerous as people make them out to be.

Honestly, I dread getting mentors in my runs. They give FF14 veterans a horrible name. Why are they even allowed to don the crown (pun intended) of someone who gives advice when they ignore advice themselves?

Not all mentors are battle mentors, so dunno if the one you got was one or not. Either way, spreading the negativity and meme isn't helpful and is actually damaging the reputation of mentors and veterans even more than "bad" mentors themselves are. This one mentor (assuming they were a battle mentor) doesn't represent all mentors. Treat them as a player and don't lump them together with all mentors because there sure as hell are a lot of good and great mentors out there who don't deserve this treatment and generalization.

Not gonna lie. I've been taking WAR into roulettes in the past month solely because Adventurer In Need bonuses, I actually wish the healers that I'm matched with would know what and how powerful Nascent Flash is (at least until 6.0 drops). Too many times they'd just kept me on 90% and higher. Let.me.have.my.serotonin.slash.please Q_Q

This one mentor (assuming they were a battle mentor) doesn't represent all mentors. Treat them as a player and don't lump them together with all mentors because there sure as hell are a lot of good and great mentors out there who don't deserve this treatment and generalization.

Turning on mentor crown is what I did when I want to lower other players' expectation nowadays. And it worked wonder.

Of course, I still play the way I do regardless of icon. It's just far easier to get around when people have lower expectation. Don't even need to comm me, I don't need 'em even though I appreciate those who still bothered to do so.

Personal experience is not to be mistaken for bias. However, that doesn't mean it's not subjective, I admit.

Then maybe SE ought to do something about it, so being a mentor isn't just a sign that you've played enough for people to throw you a commendation 1500 times and wanted a crown for it? It's unfair to say that people need to shrug off certain mentors as just 'players' while simultaneously stating that other mentors are to be taken seriously. A little quality control goes a long way. Which is why I wondered why someone like that is allowed to be a mentor in the first place.

You're right there are only a few bad apple but the others are completely useless. Showing up to a dungeon, barely talking and play decently anybody can do it. So until the mentors are actually distincting themself from the playerbase by being the gigachad they should be you'll be a meme to the community.

Yeah, I agree on that.

I can Also get the big Mentor Crown, but I literally refuse to get it, I do NOT want to be lumped together with Mentors. I dont even remember if I ever met a decent mentor.

If I am in a group and we hit a wall, I'll ask if they want me to explain the mechanic's, I do NOT need a icon for that.

Heck, I was getting flak from a Mentor healer in Copied Factory when I was on my SMN and was doing Pet swaps for Shields. Dude was complaining I'm loosing DPS because of that.
Me literally sitting on second place on the threat table above every other DPS by a LONG SHOT. Like, sure bud, what ever you say, the 4 GCD I wasted over the whole boss fight will have such a massive impact.

I bet there are amazing mentors, but I have yet to meet one who stands above your general player.
