Oh how I wish we had dungeons akin to WoW. Hell, we could even have challenge modes. Already have a dungeon timer.Dungeons are my bread and butter in any MMO I play, but they do suck in XIV. It's ironic, this game is so PvE focused but outside of the boss arena extreme trials and savage raids the PvE content is an absolute joke. We get no hard dungeons or alliance raids, or achievements with specific requirements that might change how you do battles.
It's all very scripted and static and after years of this dungeon design I'm really sick of it.
It pays the bills in a game where story line dungeons are not optional content for players who never want to see an extreme trial or savage raid.
Which is fair, but why are the optional dungeons that aren't tied to MSQ just as easy? They could make those the challenging ones.
That's your opinion. I enjoy playing my Jobs and fighting the bosses. Most people enjoy the content inside the grind to keep coming back for each expansion. I'm sure plenty agree with you and play anyway, but addictive gameplay is frequently cited when people talk about this game.
In essence, it'd be nice to have more exploratory, time intensive content, but not as a replacement for quick dungeons. We're way past discussing throwing out tomestones entirely. Not gonna happen. And there's not gonna be some developer reversion to 30 minute dungeons or dungeons people constantly ragequit like in WOW, because it would kill people's ability to farm tomestones effectively and reduce player retention as people start to feel they are now playing that shitty game everyone quit in droves this year.
I actually do dungeons when I don't need tomestones too, I just enjoy playing the game lol.
Ultimately it doesn't matter if dungeons are linear or not or how big the dungeons are, they become the same at some point.
BRD back in WoW was incredible, really large scale and epic.
But it did get old.
Or they can be inspired by alliance raids (especially in terms of enemy placements in between bosses, and maybe even number of bosses) as dungeons should just be the light party version of alliance raids.
That way, we can have dungeons be the starting content for alliance raids (though not perfectly, of course, due to having three tanks in the raid), just like trials can be thought of as the starting content of full party raids.
About every MMO now have the tank forced to chain pull all the trash to the boss or a locked door and dont wait on like cut screens and laggers. I saw dps and healers drag trash to the tank because the tank was to slow in a few MMOs. When dungs do get harder the ragers and toxic players cry on every wipe or rage quit, and the elites starts to gate keep with lvls or use sites like Raider.IO.Even if they gave 30 minutes' worth of tomestones (i.e., some 50%-100% more than current dungeons do at their typical 15-20 minute completion times)?
Personally, I'd rather do an actual dungeon than a hallway sprinting simulator, especially if I didn't have to do as many per week.
I enjoy FFXIV as the way it is, the dungs is no different that like WOW or ESO.
Yoshida has made it very clear his intention to streamline dungeons and his view of how he wants the game to be: all inclusive.
He doesn't want to make difficult 4 player content because of the amount of responsibility that would be put on each individual player which would make them too difficulty for the average player base.
This is just one of the prices we pay.
Who knows though this topic is constantly being brought up to yoshi maybe he'll rethink his decision.
Can't speak for WoW but ESO dungeons have a very real threat of dying even on the easiest of dungeons, including the first one if players aren't competent to some degree.
This trend ramps up further as you go into dungeons taking increased damage for your spec choice in your character and a monster having your weakness or simply not properly allocating points in your skill tree.
The only thing dungeons in ffxiv are remotely similar to when it comes to ESO dungeons is that they're instanced, there are mobs, there are bosses. Some of the casual ESO dungeons are Extreme level difficulty for ffxiv.

WoW mythic plus dungs is the same race down the halls BUT with a timer. The faster ye goes the better the chase of a 3 chest at the end! Heroic and Mythic dont give the same gear as Mplus so people dont care for them. Enjoy being judged by addons like Raider.IO that gatekeeps the higher key runs also.Yeah, this is one instance where FFXIV should get inspired by wow, make Heroic dungeons that are much harder and offer better looking items, even dyeable versions of normal ones would be fine. Getting a 4 people team together for that is much easier than 8 people.
I always loved heroic dungeons back in the day.
Lmao just get rid of dungeons then. Only way Yoshi-P can streamline dungeons any further is by making everyone of them more linear than Matoya's Cave with mobs that hit like a pool noodle and getting rid of interactables entirely. Might as well go back to FFXIII at that point.
