Do I Have to Buy the Next Expansion to Get The Viera Hairstyles?

We'll actually know for certain when the patch notes drop, which will indicate what content is available to free trial players, what content is available to people who own Stormblood/Shadowbringers, and what content is available to people who own Endwalker.

Based on precedent, the female viera hairstyles are probably going to be immediately available. But the addition of the male viera is a very unprecedented addition, so it's much harder to guess.

When such notes are going to be released? Honestly, I doubt that they would release the female Viera hairstyles for free, but as I said, people are simply speculating on if they are coming with the expansion which means that people need to buy if they wish to even access the hairstyles then it's a dick move on their end.

As far as I know there's nothing stopping a new player from like, buying the Nier hairstyles off the market board, and I'm pretty sure the "new" Viera hairs are just ones that already exist being updated to work with their heads so? I don't see why you'd need to own the expansion. I mean there's probably a nonzero chance of it cause you never know I guess, but it seems unlikely.

As I said, I wouldn't take people's mere speculations as facts, and the fact that square knows fully well that people wanting hairstyles for the Viera for 2 years know that they wouldn't miss the opportunity to lock it behind a paywall via Endwalker. Same for the male viera which there was a huge backlash against Square back when Shadowbringer first came out.

I mean, I can be pretty cynical, but I don't wanna be that cynical. Seems like it'd be kind of a bad move imo exactly because of that backlash. The Viera hair situation is honestly the biggest negative on an otherwise great expansion for me, and gating a fix to a frankly ridiculous gap in customizability behind a paywall seems in poor taste. That's just my thoughts though.

I pre-ordered so at least I'll have them either way, I suppose.

since 2.0, when they have added new hair, they have never locked it behind an expansion. sometimes the way to acquire said hairstyle is locked behind an expansion (such as 2b's hair) however, you can buy and purchase the hair on the base game. having said that, the hair that is being released for viera are old hairstyles that have already been out, only made to fit female viera. it would make no sense to suddenly decide to lock (already released btw) hairstyle behind an expansion. they're being added with EW, but available for players with SHB.

Yeah, but a dick move to those of us who aren't going to buy the expansion right from the get-go. It is, and it's a sort of scheme that I've seen some companies do over the years. The whole "pay money to fix the problems that they created" scheme is getting really old. It's not any of our fault if they fucked up with the viera and hrothgar races, and the fact that we pay them 15 usd every month to simply play their game is the caveat to the whole situation.

Who knows, but nothing is solid yet which is sad that they never said anything regards to that, but like with the male viera that they're treating them as a "separate race", I highly doubt that they would be giving the hairstyles for the female Viera that people were asking for in the past 2 years. But we'll see.

Indeed, hence why I'm not holding my breath since Square Enix isn't the most customer friendly company in the world either.
