it's kind of tough either way. if they include all the inactive accounts in the auto world transfers, this is bound to happen. if they don't include the inactive accounts, a lot of people could come back to the game for 2.0 or sometime before it... stranded, unable to ever play with their friends again. theoretically.

i think especially given the way people conduct themselves in the forums, they were gonna get major grief really no matter what they did. though, clearly, it still could've been handled a little bit better.

maybe a potential fix is to roll back the transfer apps, pretend today never happened, then reopen transfer apps in a few days with priority given to subscribing accounts. if someone isn't subbed and comes late to the game, they should log in to an option to transfer to that world or another (whenever that may be). if the world happens to be full, sucks. if not, yay. and while this method could cause some grief as well, at the very least square could continue to monitor populations in the coming months leading up to 2.0 and lift transfer restrictions for some servers here and there. that's not too different from how things worked in xi, was it?

or, i guess if they stick with this method and expect people to deal with it, maybe they can reassess world populations in the future sometime and allow discounted paid transfers again for a limited time. or something.

this is messy.
