I'm going to chime in and give my opinion on this problem.

This is a people issue. Always been. Even before the dawn of the internet you had celebrity culture among magazines being sold everywhere, still is.

When you decide to become a personality on the internet, you give away your privacy in some case. The only way people stop doing this is to call those viewers out on it and lose some sweet dough, cash.

In short: Some people are crazy (alot actually) and have no respect for privacy.

FF14 just needs options set in place to protect Streamers from being bombarded like that.

It wouldn't be too hard to make all Requests only Friend Only, right?

This isn't even a FFXIV problem. It happens on other games as well. I've seen it in hub lobbies on PSO2 in the past few months and even came across a clip from apex where people in game recognized a streamer and caused the match to entirely derail as a group of players defended the streamer from attack then spent the rest of the time goofing around.

As for vtubers. Lots of people like them. Others dont.

I didn't watch gameplay streams at all until I came across a couple vtubers. Live streamers tend to come off as fake to me where they're trying to pass themselves off as something they aren't or they're just playing the game to try and sell an image of themselves to you. Gameplay streams I tend to see done with vtubers generally come off as someone actually having fun playing a game and as such tend to be more entertaining to me. You also sometimes get fun clips like when Korone was stuck on the same level of R-Type for something like 8 hours and her viewers tried to tell her to go to bed.

Pekora is part of Hololive. I think they might have recently started showing interest in FFXIV because one of the things that came through my FFXIV search was another Hololive member Fubuki watching i believe the recent launch trailer for Endwalker. I don't think atm any of them has streamed an open world MMO before as they tend to do offline games, normal multiplayer games, or minecraft on their own private server. Not really things their fans can just show up on. So I suppose streaming an MMO for the first time when already being a well known streamer was probably overwhelming.

A few of them have streamed PSO2:NGS, and it was.. OK.. mostly because there's instanced "blocks" they can run away to as long as they don't show their stats. Once that happened they did get a little rushed. But honestly those streams were not as bad.

I watched the videos of her getting dogpiled, screen filled with other enthusiastic players bouncing around spamming AOEs etc and it was Hilarious! Comedy Gold, Very entertaining

It was more fun watching the onscreen player crowds running around filling the screen with their diverse Glamours, Job AOE spamming and bouncing energy than listening to the streamer herself. 10/10 Entertainment value I couldn't stop laughing, FFXIV is awesome.

One of my favorite things about MMOs and FFXIV is how epic and cool big player crowds look running around in major cities and outside questing zones, it was a really beautiful showcase of the diverse community that I love.

vtubers are hated by a certain group of people, who've already bullied one of the then biggest ones into retiring, wouldn't surprise me if they were behind that as well

I've seen one in game on PSO2 NGS. And yeah with the way PSO2 uses blocks and rooms it's not as easy to follow a streamer on that game unless they open menus in game that show what block and room they are in. It also limits the number of people that can show up if that information does end up out there during their stream.
