Even if true, it doesn't mean that the level of backlash that limited job has gotten is enough to abandon the concept. If anything, if they continue to develop it and expand with more job, they could even win more proponents for it as one job is not enough for a concept like this.

Based on... what, exactly? They still updated PvP throughout Shadowbringers. In fact, it had more updates than Blue Mage whose 70 content didn't even include a mount. Furthermore, they never anticipated the sheer response for Deep Dungeon content; seemingly having no intention of bringing it back until the playerbase all but demanded it. On the other hand, stuff like Diadem and LoV were largely forgotten due to their horrendous perception.

There isn't any precedence for them "taking breaks" on content they deem successful. Putting Deep Dungeon on hold again for a new Limited Job only serves to make players upset; creating the very stigma that contributed to Blue Mage's lackluster reception in the first place.

Is it worth the development cost to that risk though? Player reception towards Blue Mage and the Limited Job system as a whole was resoundingly negative. While improvement have made some people come around, it largely remains an unpopular concept. They could try again, but given their complete silence, that seems less likely. Compare Limited Jobs to Eureka, which also garnered significantly criticism, especially Pagos. They spent the entire expansion trying to fix it, then announced early on their intentions to expand Exploratory content more with Bozja. They've even brought it up for Endwalker. Meanwhile, Blue Mage hasn't been given a single peep. Bit telling.

Anyone who asks for beastmaster must not play SMN. This dev team has a horrible time with pets. Each expansion they got rid of pets. SMN pet is just an animation now and not a pet job. SMN does look way cooler though. The people who suggest limited probably understand the same way blu is in the game. Unbalanced and broken and devs are fine with it. BST would be either be not like everyone would expect or limited. SE doesn't like pets.

Could also increase the backlash by upsetting people wanting to play the full game as a job that fights alongside their pet with a different theme than smn.

BST as a limited job would be a lot more appealing to me if the overworld was significantly more dangerous. Even then though it would quickly lose its novelty if there wasn't anything interesting to do after hitting level cap.

The best I think we would ever get in FFXIV would a physical melee variant of smn. I wouldn't necessarily hate that but as a big fan of FFXI bst it would be a let down, to be fair though, every job in FFXIV is extremely simplified compared to their FFXI version and I can enjoy playing all the others so I guess bst would be no different.

Based on Blue Mage update cadence, which is not every patch.

Yeah, it tells you that it's not the right time for a Blue Mage/limited job update.

There's a difference between not updating a pure side content and an actual job, part of your character's progression, however limited it is. At the very least, if they are abandoning it, I would hope they would have the courtesy of making Blue Mage unlimited or at least announce that they are abandoning it. So until they say otherwise, I don't see a reason to think it's been abandoned just because they didn't say anything about it right now.

People get upset at various job/role decisions. If they don't like it, then they'll play another job. SE will just have to decide whether a job's concept can be better realized as a limited job or not, as they're the ones who have to develop and maintain the job.

Blue mage is likely always going to stay one expansion behind current content. So I wouldn't expect another BLU update until later in EW. And if we get that, nothing else until 7.X.

During the Endwalker media tour, there was an interview that asked about Blue Mage. Unfortunately, the response provided by SE stated that they plan to keep Blue Mage limited (or "individual" as they say) and that it will receive more Blue Mage specific content updates over time. But regarding future limited jobs, nothing was said to suggest they have plans to add more. If anything, saying that they want to keep Blue Mage individual could suggest that currently don't have plans to add more limited job.

What I find telling is that the question that was asked just prior to this one was in regards to Deep Dungeon. They comment on the resounding feedback that they received, saying that they have plans that players should look forward to with Yoshi-P happily smiling at the end. But for the Blue Mage question, the overall tone was less enthusiastic and Yoshi-P looks far more serious at the end.

I would probably have the same expression if you asked me about Blue Mage as well. In any case they'll eventually run out of ideas for "limited Blue Mage!" before long and likely don't want to risk another controversy by releasing another limited job-inevitably polarizing the playerbase to one of two sides again.

In any case only time will tell whether they fix Blue Mage or not. Summoners had to wait 8 years to become full Summoners. Exploratory content took an entire expansion and a half to get right. Viera and Hrothgar got their missing hair and genders after 2 years. I'm prepared to wait.
