You sound like someone that's never had a job that provided paid time off. Most employers don't pull the crap you see on movies and TV shows where someone saves up 20 years of it then can take a year off work with pay. They let you carry over a small amount of it to the next year and the rest is use it or lose it. Having an abundance of it this late in the year either means there wasn't anything important enough to use it on during the year or you just weren't able to use it earlier in the year when you wanted to due to issues in the workplace. The last minute delay means basically either getting that time moved to line up with the delay, or having that time off where it is scheduled now but not having access to the activity you planned on doing during that time. And for many that have to take the latter that means having their enjoyment of the game either delayed beyond the new launch date due to work or having their enjoyment impacted by a potentially negative mental state caused by their work.Wow..I actually didnt expect this Thread to Devolve into this Hot Garbage.
Shame on everyone who wants to attack the devs over a 2 week delay. You took paid time off for a videogame? C'mon dude, that time should be saved for something actually important, not to sit at home and play a videogame that you can play when you do actually have time off. Not saying you can't be upset and disappointment...I sure as heck am, but why sit here and get at Game Devs that want to make sure they release a quality product?
Oh no unforeseen circumstances, welcome back to reality, this crap happens, grow up and deal with it. You will have time to play. Maybe not as much as you want, but you will get play time, your not gonna miss out on anything.
What people choose to use their PTO is, frankly, none of your business. What difference is there between using PTO for a long weekend vacation that thousands of people do annually and using that same time for an hyped video game launch? People take PTOs for all sort of things: concerts, sporting events or sitting at home all day in a hot bath. It's entirely their prerogative. What you deem "important" doesn't matter.
Your right, it is none of my business, but people publicly announced they took the PTO for this, so just like they are entitled to complain about a Release delay, Im entitled to criticize people choices. Its completely your choice 100%
Not gonna stop me from saying something.
Untrue, I have a job and I have PTO that I can use at any moment of my choice. I just think it should be used for something better then playing a videogame. You sound like someone that's never had a job that provided paid time off. Your free to do whatever you want with it, doesn't mean I cant express that I think it could/should be used better then a videogame.

You’re right. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But sometimes it’s far better to keep your opinions to yourself—just because you have one doesn’t mean you need to say it. Unless you just want to come off as a… Well. On the bolded part, my job is literally “You use your PTO by December 31st or lose it”. Since I get paid holidays off, this was the best time to use my remaining PTO on instead of losing it. And, to be frank, it was important to me to take off a few days to play video games with my friends and enjoy the expansion. It’s fine if someone doesn’t find that as important—I don’t care about that—but it is uncalled for to shame another for it.You sound like someone that's never had a job that provided paid time off. The very same could be said of you but you took issue when others were telling you to keep yours to yourself.
..........so this applies to everyone right?

Just, interesting that I wouldnt be allowed to say something, but everybody else is allowed to
So this is how a topic gets derailed and then find it being caught by a whole new set of rails. What not to say or do RE: Vacation time. What people choose to use their PTO is, frankly, none of your business. He has an opinion. Stop being so triggered and offended over a personal opinion. We all don't see the same points, so no need to be on a half-eaten soap box trying to find another argument.
Yeah, no one can tell another how to use their time off. I used it for expansion launches when I had it. Nowadays I take time off once a year, since I don't get paid, and no paid holidays either, so I get about a week off between Christmas and New Years.
I'm just happy I'll have extra time to finish my NG+ run, since I haven't played through the story of each expansion since they released. Plus I'll be able to get through most of the remaining school quarter, tho Finals is the week after release so...

This is…literally not the same thing and you know it. I’m not shaming others for what they consider important. /shrug..........so this applies to everyone right?

Feel free to disagree with what others consider important. But you don’t need to sound like a jerk about it.

I work deploying cloud builds for a large telecom in the US. We FREQUENTLY have builds get delayed due to issues, most of them hardware related. FedEx delays, Vendor delays, and thus, deadlines slip, impacting customer deployment dates. Some of these dates slip the day of. Maybe this is why I'm so numb to this, as its literally my job dealing with it.
And how many contracts have penalties or other monetary consideration baked into the contract expecting a delay. Delays are not uncommon, but penalties or a lower starting bid is also not uncommon. Several local projects all came in under budget all due to delay penalties.
