Yeah, sorry, but that's not how it works in general. You don't notice 2 weeks earlier that you won't be making a deadline unless

a) you procastrinated and started working on said project 2 weeks before the deadline (which we know was not the case here)
b) an unexpected major incident happened (doesn't sound like it)

What this sounds like is devs knowing they needed extra time but superiors/execs telling them to crunch it till it eventually became apparent to them that that was not gonna happen, hence the 2 weeks notice.

And how many contracts have penalties or other monetary consideration baked into the contract expecting a delay. Delays are not uncommon, but penalties or a lower starting bid is also not uncommon. Several local projects all came in under budget all due to delay penalties.

None as far as I know, but I'm also on the lab side (not production). We just see a lot of escalations up the chain of command. But what can you do when unexpected things happen.

Pay penalties. They literally bankrupted a company, because they couldn't get replacement parts after they broke the first part.

Those are contractual obligations though. I don't remember any signed contracts with 6.0s release date, with penalty outlines, etc.

No, but people pretending that companies don't suffer real world consequences for delays is a little strange. That game developers get a free pass for delays, again feels strange.



More then likely the penalty SE will suffer is if they don't meet whatever magic dollar amount they expect is stock dropping. SE has no obligation to players their obligation is to stock holders. Just like if they want to sell X item in cash shop like they do in avengers game. The players are secondary to stock holders.

Entertainment in general has no penalties for delays to the end user. Shows, movies, Amusement parks, etc have release/opening delays and go unpenalized. Same with sports games.
