I'm curious. Outside of raids, what is there to do, in the form of being able to play your combat job in a meaningful way?

I think the point you are missing is that you don’t need to do anything “utilizing a combat job in a meaningful way” to enjoy playing this game. Many people enjoy the game immensely for other reasons entirely, and that’s fine.

Indeed I would argue a very small percent of time in game is actually spent in a combat situation, let alone one that needs serious attention or focus.

I’m not trying to say “your fun is wrong” by any means- if the only enjoyment you get is via raids that is fine- but at the same time, the guy who just likes hanging in Limsa playing his flute, or the cat girl trying out some crazy new outfit… or the half naked Roe’s flexing…etc etc. Their fun isn’t wrong either.
