It can take a while to let go of things you invested in and felt passionate about for years, especially if you have friends still playing and trying to drag you back. That's what happened to me - was ready to quit in WoD, friends kept asking me to come back. Didn't finally let go until end of Legion and the bad Teldrassil story.

WoW really was a good game for several years, and it's sad to see what's become of it.

Yeah, when I was nine years old, it was "NES is better than Sega Master System!" and then people would fight about it. 1985. Then SNES was better than Genesis, or Genesis was better than SNES, and here's why... also here's why Nintendo is better than Sega or Sega rules over Nintendo.

Then it was Playstation versus XBOX versus Nintendo 64. Microsoft sucks, Nintendo sucks, Sony rules. Or any combination of the three companies either sucking or ruling the world.

PC versus Mac.
Laserdisc versus DVD.
Vinyl versus CD.

...These arguments over formats and game companies and such are very, very, very old. People think they've stumbled on something new these days, making YouTube videos about it and Instagramming and Snapchatting and streaming their "brand new" ideas on Twitch.

News flash: One is not innovative or edgy or even inherently entertaining by bashing one video game company over another. Both companies are clearly successful, despite social issues.

All these Blizzard vs. Square videos and Reddit threads and what-have-you... are just perpetuations of arguments nine-year-olds had forty years ago.

Both Blizzard and SE make great games enjoyed by millions of people. Back briefly to what I said earlier, Genesis is not "better" than SNES; they're just two different video game systems with hundreds and hundreds of great games each. Equally, "Blizzard" is not better or worse than "Square"; they're just two different video game companies with dozens of great games each.

If you were to make such a determination, it'd be subjective anyway; one cannot quantify "better" in terms of enjoyment of a game. If you want to talk profitability or innovations then that's an entirely different discussion.

I used to run a video game store in the nineties. I've seen people actually get in physical altercations over whether their Neo-Geo was better than Genesis because it "had more bits":

"Genesis has way more games!"
"Yeah, but Neo Geo has arcade ROMs in the carts, and has eight more bits than Genesis!"
"Genesis has Sonic!"
"Neo-Geo has Metal Gear!"
"Neo-Geo SUCKS!"
"Yeah? YOU SUCK!"

Slaps ensue. They did take it outside pretty quickly. I called the cops many, many times over the years for customer behavior, but that (weirdly enough) wasn't one of the times.

I get how divisive the issue is... I just wish we as humans would "evolve" out of bashing other people's subjective enjoyment of entertainment. Chocolate isn't "better" than vanilla, rock 'n roll isn't any "better" than house music, blue isn't "better" than green, and SE isn't "better" than Blizzard. Anywhere you wanna 'vice-versa' those, feel free.

I agree. The personal attacks, trolling, and changing thread tags to asinine words is pretty deplorable.

I don't think the WoW devs get it that it's been over for a long time. They didn't change when people were unhappy. They didn't change when the game was dying. They didn't change when it died. Now, when it's long dead and they have a lawsuit on their hands, they're suddenly trying to pull things back. I don't mean dead as in servers shut down, it's obviously still a functioning mmo, but it's more an empty shell that is in gradual decline.

Right now, even if they make some right moves, they'll receive negative feedback. Like their recent community council, nice idea but no one's buying it. I've never seen a company where players just straight up hate the developers so much. That attitude of arrogance has bred a lot of deep resentment.

Some of their customers have moved over to competing products for years now. You can't pull back those players. There's no fixing WoW, it's far too late, they should have listened years ago.

Yea, I kind of touch on it in my vid; I think their plan is not to create a fun game, but to create a sandbox of habit/addiction and micro-transactions. Not unlike a mobile game, the formula seems to be draw payers in with the pretty pixels of wow, take up their time with mindless grinds, then sell carries, mounts, pets, wow tokens. A gamer wants one thing, a mobile gamer wants another, and blizz is catering to the latter. What do you think, does that seem about right?

The joke is, they have already a kind of a player council. But it was never made official until now. And everybody can see the results of this council: it is useless. Preach Gaming has made a longer video about this. They had hidden forums and selected players had access to them. And in his newest video he mentioned that council again.

They could when they wanted. You can see it in the numbers of copies they sell with every expansion. They sell millions of copies. They have no problem to get the players back to the game. They have a problem to keep them in the game.

I'm sorry but I really just don't care what is happening at Blizzard. I quit playing it years ago. Try letting it go you may save your sanity. They don't seem to value their players except for what they have in their pockets.
