Sorry, but I have no sympathy left to give on these topics. Because quite frankly the only reason anyone on here cares to make a topic or give their sympathies is because he's e-famous and known. And yes it' sad he lost his mother. But the memorials? Spare me, they wouldn't be around if people didn't know him from some streaming or e-fame, they wouldn't care.

I know this from experience who has lost the parent that raised them, and had an entire community not care at the time.

So don't fake your sympathies to the person just to suck up to them as a fan that pretends they care, as that's worse than not saying anything at all.

This objectively just isn't true; There are frequently posts and vigils on community boards for this game regarding peoples FC mates or friends who have passed away, which receive outpourings of support from a community who never actually knew those people.

You were complaining in another thread about how you've removed your chatbox in-game because you feel other players treat you badly. Maybe you should do some introspection and actually try to consider why that may be, as this kind of post implies an extremely bitter attitude and pattern of behavior.

I'm a mom with a daughter around the same age as Asmongold. My daughter is the one who got me to start playing ffxiv when HW was first launched. I taught her to play video games at age four.

I first watched Asmon streams when he was thinking about trying ffxiv for the first time. I watch this one stream how his mom took him to the store to buy WoW. How they both played the game and sometimes teamed up to defeat some dungeon or boss. It reflected so much how me and my daughter play together in this game and our relationship.

Now is a very hard time for Asmongold and my heart goes out to him. I know he loved his mom more than life itself and that close bond they share. How he was always there for her. It makes me appreciate my own daughter so much more. I hope he finds comfort in these hard times and know she'll always be watching out for him.

Okay. What did this bring to the discussion other than letting people know you don't care?

Apathy is an addicting state, for some I think. I am not some huge Asmon fan (nor do I dislike him), but the news made me tear up a little (the kind which a deep breath settles). There is an unfortunate nature that everyone is having problems all the time and we can't, at least reasonably, address everyone and so the 'popular' people do seem to be the only one to catch the result. . . Yet... I think there is something good in people coming together to share a pain, not just for "the person" or the "community" but for the self as well. It helps re-center and remind people, it's not a pleasure but may have an element almost like catharsis.

If you feel bad simply because he is popular then I suppose that is a bit weird... but as a community feeling for others as a loss and reminder of life. I think it is good for everyone who is involved. Which isn't to be confused with I think we should always be in a state of sorrow... and doesn't address the awkward element that it will only really trigger for those who are more well known.. but I think events like this can be something to transcend the issue itself. Like when we are all laugh together, I think there is something interesting on the other side too (though both can be corrupted for other purposes, I suppose). There are those who may feign pain but whatever.. I can imagine most don't.

Most here will probably have zero direct impact on Asmon himself (if not everyone), but I think the legitimate sorrow felt at a major loss impact each other and that may have indirect consequences that ripple back around indirectly as a more self and community conscious unit. In a more happy tone way, events like people lining up chocobos or bonfires gives a sense of unity and community that even without actually being in contact with each person you still feel and that can be an important element to others. I can only imagine someone having a really bad day and they login to find giant walls of chocobos, joining in, and just feeling good for something so silly and silent (but it being silly doesn't mean the feelings are any less helpful).

My 2 gil at least on that even if you don't directly impact the person with the pain that the sharing of pain (or joy) can be valuable still.

When Miura passed away I felt like this was very helpful and it did make me feel closer to the community too almost like a bonding moment.

Obivously there are people who only care because they're clout fishing, when Miura passed away I saw artists for example who I know for a fact had been saying very negative things about Miura in the past who suddenly were his greatest fans.
Same when actors pass away suddenly everyone does fanart tributes and had their lives changed by the actor.
And I doubt everyone who were partaking in the Miura memorials even knew who he was.

But I don't think that negates the fact that there are people who did care and that it did matter to them.
I am sure there were a lot of people who watched Soken talk about his cancer and felt for him and had a lot of respect for him for managing to keep working who had no clue who he was even within the FFXIV community.
Even tho it's a horrible situation it humanizes people a lot and a lot of people can relate on a personal level too.

Damn someone is really salty today. I know you might have troubles understanding that but just for example, we would also be sad if Soken had passed away or Yoshi P. or any of the Devs or any other person, no matter how famous, that brought many people happiness and joy.

So yeah, people care about other people that give them something. We would be sad if Soken died cause we love his music, many people are sad cause Asmons mom died cause he brings entertainment and joy to literally hundreds of thousands of viewers, people are sad when close relatives die cause they are close, friends feel with you when you suffer cause they are close to you and you give them also something back.

So yeah we are selfish creatures, we care about people that we root and bond with and the starving child on the other side of the planet doesn't concern cause if we feel with everyone our lifes would be only made out of suffering but heck you might wanna stuff your nihilism somewhere else cause you are way too yellow and bright colorwise to be a goth.
