Problem is that he's not wrong. There are objectively right and wrong ways to do mechanics in fights or else it's a wipe. Now if we don't explain it all cutsey for the sprouts it's us who've been here longer that get in trouble if they take it the wrong way.

Why bother explaining and helping them through when it's better to just leave or run with trusts?

Just because I accept their TOS as a condition of being able to login, doesn't mean I view their TOS as valid. That isn't how reality works. A Terms of Service agreement is corporate nonsense, and people don't genuinely have commitments to them. Myself included.

When I see bad policy. I'm not going to embrace it, and I will call it out.

After reading up a bit, I think it's safe to conclude that it's okay to just keep doing as always. I share other people's concerns about what these TOS changes truly entail, but at the same time, the chances of landing in a party with people who are vindictive enough to twist anything you say so far out of context that it makes you look like the villain, is slim. Having played since the beginning of 2.0, I've never met someone who took advantage of the report feature in any kind of way, shape, or form. The one time I got a message from a GM, I was the one who did something to warrant the report.

Cant wait for this to blow over in a week and basically nothing change. You guys worry over nothing despite this happening to the ToS multiple times before. You're not going to get banned for saying "Tank put on stance." or "MCH you need to run to the side for this mechanic." And you're certainly not going to get banned for simply leaving a dungeon. It was referring to people who repeatedly force a DC to do things like force a votekick to bypass 30m lockout, or to skip cutscenes in MSQ roulette for example.

If you can't see the problem with a policy where providing any type of negative criticism towards a player (even if done to help them improve) can get you punished for it. Then it's probably best you bow out of the conversation.

That's a problem with the "many people" then. Literally, don't be rude and you're good.

It would be great if it were really that simple, but a literal reading of the ToS unfortunately diverges from that interpretation. Here are some examples:

- "There's no way we can clear this with [suggestion]." (Telling someone a suggested strategy isn't viable)
- "Don't join if your equipment is that bad/such a low item level." (Excluding someone from a group based on their item level being unviable for the content)
- "We can only beat [duty/content] by using [something]. You can't do it any other way, so stop doing that." (Explaining an absolute mechanical requirement to someone)

Even if you consider the wording itself above to be kind of abrasive or rude, the ToS specifically refers to the core concepts being expressed, rather than the exact phrasing.

There is content in the game where alternative strategies and playstyles absolutely do not work and will prevent everyone from clearing, and it is explicitly prohibited to explain the absolute nature of that situation to someone if you interpret the ToS literally, regardless of how nicely you manage to phrase it. Again, I agree with you that it's unlikely to actually be enforced in that way, but even having that kind of room for interpretation is a bad thing. This issue just isn't as simple as 'don't be rude'.

I have literally been told I should commit suicide if I don't know mechanics (it was my first time in the latest NieR raid and no, I didn't watch a video, which I guess is taboo). So I get where SE is coming from. It's this type of behavior they are trying to suppress, but at the same time, enforcing a rule to make people think about how they word things and the tone they use. It's not a bad idea and if it keeps comments like the one I received from happening again, then I'm all for it.
