How about just making it so the target reticle simply stops at maximum range, eliminating the possibility of failure in this move.

Already been confirmed for Endwalker, was talked about in the latest Live Letter.

Congratulations!
You (and all of us, too) are getting exactly what you're asking for, and in less than a month!
It's the double tap to use that I'm most excited for. That's how it works in GW2 and it feels so much better to use ground-targeting in that game because of it. Can't wait for both changes!
It'll certainly save my life in PvP for those times I lose my mouse, ha.
Fantastic. Now I can start actually using it in dungeons and raids. As it is now, I'd often fail to execute it due to being out of range, or waste too much time feeling around for the range limit.
The one that says: "Press action button again to place target circle? I don't understand this, since the circle appears immediately when I hit/click the button..
They're adding a quality-of-life change to address this problem, which I'm grateful for since it means I might finally start using this action again.
But you still have to left click to place the circle, which can be an issue when you're trying to place it in a spot full of targets, making you switch your target.
Now you'll be able to hit the skill 2 times : once to make the circle appear, once to drop it.
What i want is for it to be executed on button-up.
So push button down and hold to align where you want it to go, and when you stop pressing the button, the effect activates.
~sigh~
Ok, thanks. I've never used it in that situation, but I can see it being handy.
