WoW's fandom hates the cash shop because they are overall older. They grew up in a time before Oblivion horse armor DLC was the norm. They saw the celestial steed added as a $25 mount and fought against it. On another WoW fan forum I post on (and even on the official WoW forums), FFXIV's cash shop is a hot topic of contention among other WoW players discussing FFXIV.

FFXIV's fandom is overall younger. They came into gaming at a time when DLC was normalized. Hence why you don't see much debate.

I don't think the overall opinion regarding FFXIV's cash shop will change. At the end of the day, FFXIV just doesn't appeal to the average WoW player. Most WoW players aren't switching to FFXIV. They're dropping out of the MMO genre entirely because there is no other game with the same appeal. The people who are making the switch are too few in number and will just be a vocal minority.

Also, as aforementioned, Blizzard's PR has been absolutely terrible over the past several years. On top of the game being bad and unfun to play, on top of Blizzard mocking their customers, you have the cash shop, so seeing a new mount being added is another straw that is breaking the camel's back for many people. It was really bad during WoD when you had mounts that were associated with factions being added to the cash shop, rather than being unlocked as a part of that faction's reputation system as was expected. (Imagine if the Beast Tribe mounts were only obtainable from the cash shop, despite the fact you did daily quests using them and saw the tribe you were doing quests for was using those mounts in cutscenes). FFXIV on the other hand generally has good PR and doesn't alienate their customers.

I don't think generally speaking the age has a huge effect here but go on.

I'm old enough to remember playing wow on launch and this, the main difference I see if blizz hads 25-30 euro mounts and may add a lesser version in the game, or use predatory methods locking people in for 6 month sub to get a mount (that is later added to the store).
