I've had people talk to me different because of my 'not negative' outlook towards the game. (Had a friend that ever since he learned I played and enjoyed wow couldn't help but use me as a outlet for ALL his grievances about that game and 'how bad it is and how bad I am for playing it' like a stress punching bag). Now I'm ashamed or just scared to even talk about my history in that game in this games community in fear of being run out again.
It's sad but you're probably better off without those friends. They sound like, while not horrible, people who aren't well adjusted. Let's just call them ... immature and leave it at that.

I also play all MMOs. While FFXIV is my main game I like WoW, I used to like ESO, I like New World, I'll be playing Elyon in 2 days, and I plan to play Swords of Legends Online at some point in the near future and I won't apologise for being a well adjusted person who doesn't treat games like a sportball match.

Don't be ashamed for playing many games, it means you have more perspective on issues than someone who just plays a single game. As YoshiP said playing one game feels unnatural.

In my experience, people who play multiple games - be they MMO's or otherwise - are generally more grounded and friendly compared to those who only stick to one game and never stray from it.

I don't doubt that exceptions exist, but in my opinion it's healthy for people to have varied interests and hobbies.

Like, sure, I enjoy playing FFXIV but I'm also excited about playing Dying Light 2 when that comes out next year and I have other hobbies such as hiking, swimming and dining out.

I just can't connect with people who only do one thing and one thing only in their spare time and never want to do or talk about something else.

Does collecting hobbies (not collecting things, like coins) count as a hobby?

This games community has some serious insecurity issues.

I'm pretty excited for Elden Ring coming out in a couple of months. Until then I'll be keeping myself busy with Dragon's Dogma and Endwalker when it releases next month.

I'm hoping that we get a sequel to Dragon's Dogma. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Elden Ring looks decent, so it's definitely on my radar when it comes to games to keep an eye on. Project Triangle caught my attention, too. Which is out in...March, I think.

WoW is designed to require all of your time if you are trying to keep a character current on player-power items, and I think that fosters a lot of animosity when you play other games. There's some assumption that you are slacking on character progression in order to enjoy other games. This is a huge difference in school of thought between the dev teams at Blizzard and FFXIV. FFXIV devs encourage you to experience other games and help them make a better game. WoW leadership wants to share the highest "engagement" metrics they can on their quarterly earnings calls, no matter the cost. They still don't seem to realize that the systems they employ have been a huge factor in players quitting.
