Animosity with World of warcraft players who still like the game?

I must be in a fever dream. Because this “gameplay” people praise wow for. Like I dunno, I play alot of games. I mean a lot. And every time I hear that line I’m like. “ do they play nothing but wow?” Because tight gameplay where everything just works is normal. Any capcom game in the mid to late 90s to late Dreamcast era. Devil may cry 3 and 5. Classics sonic games, I could go on. Is wow brain washing people? Even just in the mmo space. Tera by design I bet has better gameplay due to it being an action game. The hell is wow doing for people to keep praising this?

I mean.. most of this game before level 80 is shifting through dialogue like a visual novel with WASD elements. I think most of wow players who are still there are doing the stuff this game doesn't provide. Mythic raiding, actual PVP. or are playing the classic version when the game was much better then it is now.

I just don't see why talk about it so much, it looks like you're trying to identify with people who also play WoW. I mean, yeah urge of players and all that, but FFXIV is its own thing.
People don't want to talk about other mmos, we want to talk about what we get to do here. I'm also an MMO guy, but I don't go talking all day about the great systems of other mmos I play with people who are hyped about FF.

What happens for example is that I have my activity visible on discord whenever I play a game. (Which is kinda to a detriment when I take a sick day from raiding and they see me playing baldurs gate lol) but when my xiv FC or my statics sees me playing 'Classic WoW x64'. I've been called out on that multiple times. It was rough especially when TBC came out and I was playing classic hard but also had raids to do here and would be called out for such an egregious betrayal as not spending all my free time playing xiv instead.

FFXIV definitely has extreme elements within it's community, that's for sure but as I said the other day, toss them to the curb they don't sound like friends.

I had similar things happen recently when I was playing Pathfinder WOTR instead of being online in Conan Exiles so we could go raid another clan, they gave me shit, guess who I'm not friends with any more?

When I am not on discord I keep my status as invisible, you can set your discord status up to not show what you are doing. That said people shouldn't be coming down on you for playing another game. Other people are right those people are not your friends.

Yeah I mean I'll poke a bit of fun at my friends who still play wow, but we all know it is actually in fun because we've ALL sunk far too much time into that game and pretty much share similar beefs with it anyway : p but giving people serious shade for playing a game you don't like? Seems like a waste of energy tbh

Real question to anyone who's actively butthurt by WoW people:

What part of your life is affected by someone else playing WoW? Does it keep you up at night? Does it sit in your head and poke at you obsessively till you harass a WoW player? How does it affect you? I'm genuinely curious because I can't wrap my head around how someone else playing a game would affect your life at all.

FF14 has a very long servertick. I guess one second or so. WoW has a ~30 ms servertick. And that is the reason why it feels way snappier than FF14. Examples: in WoW if you run out of an AoE attack then it is very unlikely that the AoE attack will hit you when you are really out of the AoE area. Or you do not have such situations like that a group member is almost dead, you press a huge instant heal, the player dies but your instant heal is now on cooldown because the player was already dead and due the servertick your client noticed it too late etc. The huge servertick makes the attribute haste also weaker as it could be etc.

That's really good to know and helps explain some of the being killed by "bad" when I'm out of it on my screen or when it goes off soon after the warning shows up. I don't feel quite so incompetent now.

I just want to mention I am in no way a "wow player" any more then I'm a "guild wars player" or a "xiv player" I tend to play any and every mmo that comes out and I enjoy most of them as long as they're not predatory and p2w.

With that being said I've come across multiple instances when mentioning that me liking "All mmos" and that wow is included in that all makes me a "wow player". I'm sure nobody is going to deny that some people hate wow. some hate the players and some take enjoying that game or this game to almost be a political statement.

I've lost friends in this community for simply admitting to enjoying that game or not wanting to take place / enthuse in one of the hate circle jerks that seem to be full of people who cant get that game from being in their minds rent free. I've had people talk to me different because of my 'not negative' outlook towards the game. (Had a friend that ever since he learned I played and enjoyed wow couldn't help but use me as a outlet for ALL his grievances about that game and 'how bad it is and how bad I am for playing it' like a stress punching bag). Now I'm ashamed or just scared to even talk about my history in that game in this games community in fear of being run out again.

Lastly. I'm a believer of the concept that "A person who cares the most about something has the most to complain about it" I have a bunch of stuff I think could be better about this game like many of the other games I care about. but to the people who hear my suggestions and simultaneously know I play and enjoy wow. I'm suddenly the "Angry butt hurt wow player who should just go back to wow if I don't think this game is perfect". Like I could've mentioned I played every other mmo on the sun except wow and my statements would be valid but as long as wow is a game I've played suddenly I'm "that wow player"

I started playing wow 13 years ago because I was a kid and it looked fun. I played it now because it was nostalgic. wow kick started my love for videogames and all mmos as a whole. 12 year old me didn't pick the game up to be a part of some politics war today.

Didn't mean to rant just wanted to get my grievances out there. played xiv since hw so I'm not really a refugee.. but any other refugees been experiencing these issues and this silly "game war"

It's weird when you play a game and people are talking about other games. Just enjoy the game you are playing!
