Not trying to disparage anyone here, but perhaps folks that are physically bothered by a bright spot on their monitors should play with more light in the room. Or, less light. Or, whatever makes them comfortable. The idea of a "bright spot" on your monitor via some graphics is a fallacy. If you open a browser to a blank page (solid white), that's as bright as your monitor can get.

That blank white screen should not hurt your eyes... and that is the same brightness you're seeing anywhere in FF; solid white is full brightness. It cannot get brighter than that - perceived intense brightness is due to graphical halo/glow effects and misdirection. In other words, that super bright spot that distracts you or hurts your eyes or gives you headaches is no brighter than the aforementioned plain white screen, which we've already determined doesn't (or shouldn't, after adjustment) hurt your eyes due to being too bright.

You may want to look into turning your brightness down, decreasing contrast, etc. I mean this to actually help those who might be getting physical discomfort from the glow.

If, on the other hand, this is just about not liking the way it looks, then I've misunderstood.
