Anyone that speaks of buying rare mats with gold, didn't actually spend enough time to acquire mats that couldn't just be bought with gold. You mean like, how when I played GW2, the intrinsic value was to give ArenaNet real money so you could buy gold in game to buy rare mats that had SUPER artificially low drop rates because they could make money off gem sales that way?
I got 3 characters to max level and completed the world map TWICE. It had no more value than doing dungeons in XIV, or raids, or alliance raids, etc.
Once I finished a Zone, I never went back except for the big world mobs, which we have in the form of the "super boss" fates, and hunts.

I mean, this was.... like 10 years ago? It was before XIV re-released so... Maybe things have changed since then. But it was a major issue when I played.

It's something I wish FF14 did. They spend so much time and resources on creating these zones, to be rushed through the MSQ.

There are people out in those zones every day. I am there every day, i see them out and about....so Im confused...

Loads? Besides hunt trains and maybe farming a fate for a very specific reason... what else? Unless you're gathering you very rarely go out of your hub, and even then...
I enjoy most of FFXIV instanced content, but the open world of this game is easily one of the worsts I've ever touched and seen. The zones are beautiful, but there's little exploring involved and very few incentive of doing it. Since I started playing this very rarely I see people roaming around the map, only at relics first phase, events that involves fates or a specific boon of new players because the map is just a tool for the MSQ, not because there's something interesting to do there.
You can point the strong parts of the game, but this isn't one of them. The game is built around instances, besides a few content that's hardly impactful (like doing 3 quests per day on a beast tribe). And sometimes even then they're inside another instance (leves, maps).
Even leveling in the open world isn't a thing tbh, besides doing early hunting log. If you're leveling your second job you just spam roulettes/dungeons/palace of the dead.
