I am not after anything. I merely stated my personal observation based on how MMORPG’s used to be VS how they are now.
Has a lot do with demographics. The average gamer is a LOT older now, and people have matters to take care of, kids, work, job, home, family. MMO's evolved because they had to. The social demographic also changed to adapt. When Im ingame I am busy doing things, attending to crafting , gathering, content, instances, MSQ..

Like I mentioned in my first post, previous MMO’s I played years ago was just so different in comparison to now, the chat was full of life.
Its busy, but more often than not in systems that lend themselves to better communication mediums. Like Discord. I can be in a voice chat with a dozen people at any given time.

Im also not the Facebook/ Twitter / Snapchat type, and I dont spend my time being a 'social butterfly".

    I socialise...on MY terms.

People were standing around and publicly socialising and it had a completely different vibe to it. People in this forum seem to deem my observation as controversial because they’re in denial or this is their first MMO so they don’t know any better.
Isnt my first MMO by a LONG chalk. Been gaming since the 80's. They still do stand around and talk..but more often than you might realise, they are in party chat or whisper or in a Linkshell or NN...again youre basing this assumption on what you SEE...not whats actually there. You arent in my linkshell, you cant see me talking..you arent in my party, you cant see me talking, you arent in my Discord channel you cant hear me talking...and that Discord is by INVITE only.

I dont use the ingame chat often, as I find that the voice systems for STEAM or Discord are far more conducive to rapid communication. I can also voicechat to people from other servers and datacentres and other games via Discord..you dont see that either.

I used RuneScape as an example in my first post because it was true. Back in 2007-2010 days it just felt more lively and sociable - people did their own thing and my friends list was full. But then somehow, when OSRS was re-released in 2013, people played it, myself included, but the vibe was entirely different.. barely anyone spoke & everyone was just so overly focused on the gameplay and being ridiculously XP efficient. Are MMO players just overly focused on levelling? I don’t know.
People..and times..change. The dynamic changes. The demographic changes. Games and modes of social interaction change.

I'm just making comparisons. Its a dumb argument to make because it can literally be applied to anything.

And if all that XIV had going for it, it would have died as soon as 2.0 ended because there was nothing to do for months, in terms of story, and everyone LOVES to say how BAD ARR's story is. (its not)

Didn't know that every game and mmos got a big name that do make them sell well no matter what, we learn a lot on this forum.
I wont argue about the story part, it's truly something i disliked from start to the actual end, you enjoy it ? Great for you, it's terrible to me.

Can be said about every game ever, or anything really.

"man, if it wasnt for that perfect mix of ingredients and spices, pizza would suck"
That would be copium. There are many games, where the content itself provides intrinsic value. GW2 is a perfect example. The way the open world is incorporated into the gameplay and gives reason to go out there is 100x better than what FF14 provides.

Am playing both at the moment, and in all honesty, IMO this is not the case at all. FF 14 offers a lot for open world. Loads.

Velnora: lets assume for a moment we run into each other and you want to "socialise". What would we discuss? Im genuinely curious.

You mean like, how when I played GW2, the intrinsic value was to give ArenaNet real money so you could buy gold in game to buy rare mats that had SUPER artificially low drop rates because they could make money off gem sales that way?

I got 3 characters to max level and completed the world map TWICE. It had no more value than doing dungeons in XIV, or raids, or alliance raids, etc.

Once I finished a Zone, I never went back except for the big world mobs, which we have in the form of the "super boss" fates, and hunts.

Anyone that speaks of buying rare mats with gold, didn't actually spend enough to acquire mats that couldn't just be bought with gold.
