Animosity with World of warcraft players who still like the game?

I've kinda already gathered that I'd have petty friends if this silly console war of mmos is a make or break for them
but I've also now been scared of even getting myself in this decisive situation again with people I meet here in fear it'll happen again.

(I'm not saying xivs community is the only one that'll go tribal at the sight of a wow enjoy. I'm sure it'd happen too if I mentioned I liked xiv over in azeroth but honestly I got no friends there to test that climate)

Most WoW players myself included are far too busy bashing the 9.1.5 changes on reddit to give a crap who plays what tbh.

There are always the silly extremists who took the meme of "refugees" too seriously. While supporting Blizzard in absolutely any capacity is a huge no for me now, I'll still always laugh at both sides who say they're "toxic" (of course it was this word) to play the other game. I've seen posts on WoW forums that get so incredibly antsy whenever FFXIV is mentioned, and in FFXIV servers I'm in anything related to WoW - even a universally agreed upon suggestion such as a glamour rework similar to it - just gets discarded and people just start yelling "WoW sucks, let's not talk about it at all!" It's like people turn into those touch-me-not flowers and crinkle up.

Don't let them get to you. They're not worth it.

I'm currently at the position where I quit wow because I've played it for 14 years and I feel sick of everything at this point. basically I've played it too much. Been playing gw2 now more then ever which is great because anyone who asks me which game of wow and xiv I think is better gets surprised I'm playing this 'old dead game' so I'm happy to play the game nobody thinks has a stake in this pissing content between wow and xiv and is just kinda doings its own thing away from it all.

Absolutely this. There's a good combination of people who think this game is either flawless and needs no change or would become super deflective about talking about improvements especially if it came from the other successful game.
Both games could learn from each other. 'should' learn from each other but that would require people stop fighting over which game is better or worse then the other.

There would be no FF XIV without WoW, and still to this day devs will always look at what others do no matter what the community do think about those games.

I've been wanting to play FF14 since ARR. Knowing Square Enix will have at least top of the line graphics and sound. That is my expectation. Can't commit to playing both FF14 and WoW. My friends refused to leave WoW. Been playing with them until SL. I found my friends either moved to opposite faction or quit playing. SL is a terrible expansion. This is the good time to move into FF14. Here I am.

That's a really debatable statement. WoW isn't original, it just happened to be the most popular. Yes they got quite a few ideas from it, but then WoW took a lot of ideas from other games too. And the FF franchise has been around much, much longer than blizzard itself.

In countless interviews the devs did talk about how WoW influenced them when making this game, like it or not it's a pillar to almost any mmos after it release.
And didn't know that 4 years is "much much longer"
