Sea Wolves aren't bots

Anyone who's remotely familiar with the Sea Wolf naming conventions won't mistake one for a bot because awkward as they sound there's still actual structure to their names.

I've personally never seen anyone make dumb remarks like what the TC experienced so I'm disinclined to think it's a common thing.

You've been lucky then. The last straw was when last night an FC member said outside the house "since when did [we] get a bot?" Before that I had been in a dungeon where a guy thought he was doing the game a favour by not rolling on the loot and waiting until it autopooled before immediately exiting the dungeon (I actually needed one of the items so I wasn't happy at being made to wait despite me having talked at the end of the dungeon and having performed admirably enough to have earned at least 1 commendation from the other players.)

Today I changed my alt's clan from a Sea Wolf to a Hellsguard and changed her name because people thought I was a bot despite that I play nothing like a bot.

I feel slightly bitter about having to do that as I put a lot of thought into that name and was following Sea Wolf naming conventions. Those who knew me well enough laughed when I translated the name to them, but sadly too many people in the wider crowd called me a bot or treated me like a bot just because my name was unpronouncable to them. Even some of my own FC members who've not met my Roe before have jokingly commented on my Roe's name looking like a bot's name, but it's gone on for so long now that it's no longer funny and I knew I was eventually going to have to invest in a name change.

I've also seen the odd Sea Wolf player on my main character in parties and often heard people say "oh great we've got a bot in the party" and I've had to correct them that they're not a bot and are using a proper Roe name.

It saddens me there's too many people who judge players just because of a name and even more if that person is a new player who's just learning their job. Because of them there is now 1 less Sea Wolf femroe because I was tired of being mistreated and jested at my expense. I'll miss her she-hulk green skin but I won't miss the abuse I endured.

You just got troll'd, that's all. People like scapegoats, it allows them to annoy people so they can't see their own problem, a let off steam.

The internet is like the school playground, it's merciless, you shouldn't pay attention to the hallway noise of people you don't know, welcome to the net zoo.

Put the name that matters to you, don't worry about the trolls and then the general discussion channels, it's like a troll forum, it's not worth reading them, blacklist don't worry about it anymore, they're not going to be 200 per server anyway.

Ps: People can't pronounce your character's name because they don't know anything about FFXIV lore and miqo'te names.

Never seen anyone ever calling a Sea Wolf a bot, not at least through names.

I have seen at least 1 or 2 au ra healbots with non in game names in Syrcus Tower that's it so i imagine people are just messing with you.
Just enjoy your character, many Roe players (at least new) do end up sticking with sea wolf names, seen many in dungeons.

Seeing someone from Balmung thinking a created naming system based off real world languages shouldn't be a thing or should be simplified does give a nice chuckle.

But it's probably because I got a custom name, and achievements you have to work a bit to get for glamour.

you should be glad anyone noticed your name, I usually don't pay attention people have too long names in this game

I feel ya OP as I had a similar situation.
I was so excited with my new name, getting into the whole Roegadyn language and all that but the moment I changed, I got all sorts of weird comments which was very disheartening. You put so much effort to finally come up with a lore-friendly name only to receive such feedback.

Out of frustration I actually deleted most of my Friend list (was always full after 8 years), thinking it would made me not be spotted by the "friend name color" only to find out, it's just your own side (oof)

Anyway, I was very close to change back but I was not having any of the negative feedback and sticked to it in regardless! While the ignore troll mode is harder than it sounds like sometimes, it's the only way to truly do what you want to do on the internet.

So I hope it won't discourage you to maybe try a Seawolf in the future again cause if you love Limsa Lominsa, you know how awesome they are

I mean if your name is asdggjk or escrfvtbb im gonna assume your a bot or bought it from one. If it looks like someone smashed their face into a kb to get a name 99% its a bot. Better to assume its a bot and keep distance then get a ban because the STF thinks you are working with them.

This sucks big donkey tail, I agree. I've also got to give people a bit of pass since Welsh looks like gibberish to most people; Gwawriau (dawn) and Rhyfelwr (warrior) would look a little suspect to me if I didn't know better and/or saw it on a non-Roe. I'm sorry this happened to you!

At least it's not Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrob, a legitimate location name in Wales.
