New players are already given a stack of aetheryte tickets and the new waking sands tickets; by the time they burn through those, they ought to have amassed at least 100-200K in gil as a nest egg. (At least, that's about the amount my alts end up with.)

At least they didn't announce we're going back to the 1.0 anima system.

I live on a relatively inexpensive server I believe, a piece of gear for a fresh 80er costs around 50k each. Depending on job, you'll need 12-13 pieces, which means 600k for each role brought to 80.
Now multiply that with category, like Fending, Aiming... even just 2 categories put you above one million.
It doesn't end there, there's more money to spend to get where you need to be, and then you didn't even sink one gil into stuff like glamours, even just dyes or hair styles, which are a major part of the game and the reason many people chose XIV over other games.

I really rather not spend more money on something like Aetheryte teleports, but I'm aware that this forum is an echo chamber, and arguing won't get me far, so I'll stop here and wait to see how it turns out.
are you arguing that everyone hits 80 and then HAS to buy their level 80 gear and gear for any jobs they subsequently get to 80?

Or you could just.. ya know.. goof off, tell everyone whose time you waste in dungeons to pay your sub and be done with it.

    Sounds good?

.. or take your free base 80 set, get some tomestones or .. (god I hate this name) nut sacks and grab some serviceable 80 gear, do some raids (which are uncapped for looting) and upgrade like every other person does?

Or you could just... ya know... get your capstone AF gear which is sufficient for entry level into cap level dungeons and work your way up through dungeon drops, tomes, and raids?

    Sounds good?

I certainly didn't buy any of the level 80 armor, and I wasn't crafting them until I had 2-3 jobs at 80 already. There's nothing forcing you to buy it. I also don't craft for profit - I purely craft to gear myself up when I do - and I don't use aetheryte tickets, and yet I'm casually sitting on about 7m gil without much effort. That's from roulettes, challenges, and doing things like treasure maps with friends, which I maybe do once a week if that.

There's plenty of means by which to earn gil. Level your retainers and have them go out to gather items. Desynth dungeon gear since it's now 100% and sell the materials. Level a gatherer and sell materials. Do your roulettes, run dungeons, complete your challenge log - heck, there's a 10k gil reward for just completing five challenges in a week, and an additional 10k for every five after that through 20. Do levequests. There's so many opportunities to get gil, so while these increased travel costs are going to be there, they're hardly going to be crippling unless you can't stay in one place for more than a few minutes at a time.

once you get to this guy in the MSQ you complete your role quest for the appropriate job he will give you FREE sets of 430 80 left side gear.

.. you know how I can tell you're rushing to "endgame"?

You wanna skip ahead you're going to pay for it, the price of instantly max Ileveling once you ding is a lot of Gil. The rest of us gear up as we play the game.

Yeah, you might want to check the ilevel on those pieces, then remind yourself of the obsession with speeding through content the player base has.
And lvl 80 gear was just one example I pulled out of my sleeve. There's more to spend cash on in the game than just teleport.

The ENTIRE playerbase is not obsessed with speedrunning, most of the playerbase engages this game at a reasonable speed and has been happy with the gear progression through tomestones and dungeons for going on 8 years now.

I like how you abandon that approach once you realize how it's not relevant to the actual requirements of breaking 80. Maybe also consider on that point that once this new pricing becomes a thing, we will be starting an entire new wave of gear progression. I can forgive that you might be joining well after the last expansion and have never experienced it, but once 90 is the new 80 you will be swimming in tomestones and gear from the current content and likely be struggling to find jobs to spend the currency on.

Yes, there is LOTS you CAN do with gil, but there is very very very little you HAVE to do with gil which has been a problem for a very long time.
