They need to improve chocobo and other taxi services. Many locations just don't link to ones they should. There should be an Airship between Eorzea and the East. Maybe a shuttle to the moon. Then slower, cheaper transport will be a more viable option.

The story explains why an airship route to the Far East isn't logically possible - the extreme distance is just too great for a single point to point trip fuel wise (even the Garleans had to use staging points to fuel their airships when flying to Othard and Aldenard from Islabard, it's why they conquered Ala Mhigo first and then moved to secure Silvertear Falls, to secure cereleum to fuel their full invasion fleets), which is why we took a boat to the Far East instead (and that slower maritime route between Limsa and Kugane still remains functional after you travel to Othard the first time, which players tend to forget about).

Not to mention Seiryu's Wall is now blocking all access by land and air into Othard as part of Doma's defensive grid, although that could potentially be deactivated to allow allied vessels to fly through.
