They are tailored to be "accessible to all" which makes them "fun to no one".

Most quests should either be tailored to challenge a specific type of player in my opinion (solo or group, for that level it needs to be challenging).

Quests that are supposed to be inclusive need to be creative to hide the fact that they offer no challenge through gameplay mechanics by having unique/fun objectives. FFXI has plenty of examples of this. Obviously this is more difficult to accomplish though, so the majority of quests should simply strive to be challenging even if that limits their "accessibility".

I see what the OP is saying and yeah the minor, non-class/non-story quests aren't that great, but jeez, they're not THAT horrible either. They're not analogous to a "bowl of snot."

I can only speak for the minor quests of lvl25 and below, so maybe I'm wrong and the Dalamud ones and other high level ones are really THAT bad, but all the ones I've completed are just mediocre, serviceable, and sometimes they have really good dialogue/text. A few of the minor ones even have little cutscenes, music changes, etc, so they're a tad more involved than your standard MMO filler quest.

Honestly, I think the levequests are worse and more boring than several of the minor quests that people in this thread seem to be complaining about.

Wait, what? Trying to excuse your behavior with stuff like "I'm in a bad mood" and "I can't tell the difference between complaining and criticism" is an effort to try and justify your actions. This is the complete opposite of being apologetic or admitting you're wrong, man.

    >_> enough with the squabbling, get back to the topic at hand. The guy apologized so let it go!

SO! In my opinion I think Guild Wars 2 is going to revolutionize quest content and MMO content in general and inspire other MMO devs to be more creative with their quests and make them more fun. Here's to hoping that good Mr. Yoshi-P and his team pay close attention to GW2's incoming success!

Dialogue/text or cutscenes do not make a good quest. They could simply have you unlock those cutscenes at a certain level. The quests themselves are a "bowl of snot". They are really that bad.

I said I am sorry, nothing more I can say. If you want to think of it as cover-ups that's fine be my guest, but I am truly sincere when I say it. And you can't tell what mood I'm in over the internet, I'm telling you what made me act the way I did.. if you don't want to believe me then fine, not asking you to.. but at least I came forward and said I was sorry, and its also 2am, thats also plays a part in how I acted.. I'm not totally with it.

Thank you... That's all I needed to hear.. and be done with the " my wronged actions". in anyrate, I do agree that the sidequest are kinda meh.. but the Main quests/GC Missions on the other hand are really intense to me ( and thats where it should matter in the Main Story). I think they should tie in the Sidequest into the mainstory some how.. like a back story to FFXIV things like that =).

I get the point OP is honestly trying to make. Basically more involving quests. While I totally agree on that point. I could not disagree more on the whole XI had great quest point.
Maybe horribly tedious with lack luster rewards sure.
But good and or moving not so much, from a your normal side quest given by random NPC lady in her house standpoint.

While quest lines where pretty good. Sometimes more involving than they should of been at times. Like why did I need to go half way across the world to talk to some random NPC hiding behind a bush for him to tell me two lines of dialogue that had nothing to do with anything. Or spending 4 hours to get a random drop off some mob just for some crap reward of 300gil and a level 10 body piece.

I'm just ranting but I think you get what I mean. I would like more than just point A to point B quests from XIV but soooo don't want long quests for no reason at all

I agree with this 100%!! They should definitely make the questing process more fun and interesting in FFXIV, but please don't be saying that FFXI's minor quests were better.

Yeah, a few of them had tiny cutscenes like the Star Onion Brigade, but even that quest chain had TONS of tedious running around from point A to point B, killing mob X for item Y; uninspired bland pointless MMO quest crap.

Not to mention the horrible, repetitive, unrewarding reputation grind in FFXI, where you turn in the same quests over and over and OVER literally HUNDREDS of times to make any progress. I wanted to play a THF/NIN in FFXI but I quit when I found out I had to grind Norg/Tenshodo reputation by turning in over 100 unstackable Yagudo Necklaces just to get my ninjutsu spells!!!! With my lack of inventory space that would have taken weeks of dedicated, extremely repetitious and boring farming and running around.

Looking at it that way, FFXIV's minor quests are quite an improvement and a lot more rewarding for the time and effort you put in. FFXIV's quests aren't on par with the cutting edge revolutionary 2012 standard of GW2, but they're an improvement from FF11.

Give Yoshi-P some time, and they'll get even better.
