Aaah so if I understand correctly, this won’t work with an untradable item thenSince its still working for me, you might be doing it wrong - try this:
1) Place the mannequin.
2) Apply the gear you want to display and confirm.
3) Walk over to a summoning bell and summon the retainer attached to the mannequin.
4) Now open the sell-menu (doesnt matter if you pick that you want to sell something from your own or your retainers inventory).
5) Right click on the item(s) that are displayed on the mannequin and choose the option to put them back in your own inventory.
The mannequin will keep the look of the item, but you're not wasting marketboard slots and you get the item back.
Glory to femroes btw !They are a rare sight
It will work with untradable items aswell - they will be marked as "untradable equiment" in the sells-menu. The item I tested with today was the Idealized Chevalier's Temple Chain and it worked like a charm!
Other than that the same restrictions that apply to our characters apply to our mannequins - you have to assign them a race, gender and job and only items that are available for that race/gender/job combination can be applied, aka you cant have a male Roegadyn Paladin wearing the female Mi'qote starter set and wielding an axe. You need to apply the race/gender/job settings to your prefered option before you place any gear on the mannequin (or remove all gear before changing the settings).
Hey ! Sorry I didn't have time to reply lately, but I tested your technique yesterday and it does indeed work !
Thanks a lot !
