This would be really cute. I approve.

You can assign glamour plates to gear sets. It's far from perfect though. There's barely enough plates for all full combat jobs with shared gear, leaving no space for alternative glamours. And just like glamour plates in general, they only apply when in one of the big cities or residential areas. But it's something at least.

I've always liked logging out at the inn room and seeing the character get into bed, but it looks odd that they're still in their armour or whatever.

It would be a nice little thing if you could designate a set of gear that your character would wear just for those cutscenes, without having to equip it.

Maybe you could interact with the bed and set up a specific outfit, a bit like the interface for the custom delivery client glamours, or maybe the choice to assign a standard glamour plate to it.

I don't know if it would be doable, and wouldn't want it to take away from space for general glamour plates, but it's a nice idea in isolation and it would be a fun thing to set up. (There are a fair few things that would work well – the ARR halfrobes and striped pants make good comfy-looking pajamas.)
Cool idea. A detail that helps to make the game more immersive. I remember using a mod for Oblivion for what you describe.

If at some point get implemented I wish they do the same for swimwear when we go underwater.

It would be a bit stranger to just instantly change outfit as we jump in and out of water though – you wear swimwear the whole time you're at the beach, and you don't change clothes just to randomly swim across a river and get out again, so it's a lot more situational. Probably more taxing on the game system too, since it would be more like direct glamouring, out in the field and as an overlay to our actual gear, which is something they couldn't manage to implement with the glamour plates.

(Overall I think that's something easier managed manually by the player, and I do keep a set of beach clothes on hand for that reason. Not that it sees much use beyond fifteen minutes a year running Moonfire quests.)

The inn cutscenes have a clear break from gameplay to the cutscene, and I think it handles the character in a different way to live gameplay. There have been a few cutscenes over time where we see our character wearing things we didn't equip, but the only time it's happened in gameplay (to my knowledge) is the Grand Melee which was hedged by cutscenes either side and not changing spontaneously, so I think it was just made to apply when our character was loaded into that particular solo instance.

At the end of the day your solution for the sleep wear will also be managing an extra set, don't you think? Having it as something auto is just a small QoL. To me swimwear is the same, could also be optional for those who don't like it. In any case, is up to the devs decided if they want to implement a suggestion or not.

I'm thinking about how they apply the set rather than store the set when I say they're different levels of difficulty.

The swimwear idea would be trying to apply an appearance to a live gameplay character in a field zone, visible to other players.

My idea for the inn room would not be touching the live game character at all – only the character shown in the cutscene, which (as I said) I think is loaded differently and might be a lot simpler to alter, which is why I thought it might be possible in the first place.

Ohh, very nice idea! I love this sort of thing. These kinds of details make the game more immersive ^^

Think it'd be fun to have some jammies before heading to bed! Think it would look better than falling into bed with an outfit full of plate.

Sure you could glam some set to fit the roles but I'd love some proper jammies.

Thing is the automation for the swimsuit should not be that taxing, most of it will be client side. Of course, I have no idea how FFXIV works, but with Oblivion/Skyrim you could do a single check when the PC go from walking/running to swimming. If that happen will trigger something similar to a FFXIV macro to activate a swimsuit gear set. If the PC status change from swimming to walking/running another macro will be trigger to revert to the last used set (nothing of this it's any more taxing for the game than a person using a "transformation" macro). All that data will be saved in your computer (like current gear sets, macros, HUD configuration). Anyway, and knowing what some custom HUD mods have already archive seems plausible.

My point is: better not to overthinkg how simple or complex a suggestion is. If the dev team like it they will make it happen, if they don't want it or can't will not happen.

I remember back in 1.0 there used to be these CSes that would appear when logging in after logging out in an inn that replayed recent things. Sometimes you'd get ones that were essentially your character having a nightmare. I think it got removed with 2.0 though.
