That, and...i would be as well, but that's not what has been stated repeatedly in the interviews. they have been stating jobs would be a 1-1 job to class for a while now. the final results may be different than the interviews we have seen so far and i would be fine with it, but i just haven't seen anything concrete to say it is going to be that way.
What other job would you need for WHM?

that's what i am getting at. there's not enough combinations that add up to make us think that all jobs released now would be 2 classes to unlock them. there's really not enough when you think about the future jobs that they stated would require 2 classes leveled to open them such as red mage.

but that's what we are talking about. if pld is gla/mrd then to balance the other jobs they would need to make all other jobs require 2 classes to open them. if they don't then the whole idea of the job only using the abilities of gla/mrd for pld would have other jobs with no skills to cross class(whm would have no cross class at all). i was looking at the balance being thrown off if they tried to do it that way. at least the only having 5 abilities from cross classing across the board it would add balance with jobs that required 1 or 2 different classes to unlock them.

On the other hand I can't see Paladin working without Provoke, which is a GLD skill.
I'm sure it could but it seems a bit strange not to have that skill on a Paladin.
well what was brought up earlier and it seems to be the most viable method of doing things was like gla is the class that you have to bring to 30 to open pld. your bar would keep all the abilities of gla and add in the 5 pld skills. that would make it to where you had 20 skills in your bar when using pld instead of the 15 you have on gla. you would still have the limit of 25 total skills you could use. it would take you from cross classing 10 skills like you can on gla and make a pld with the gla/pld abilities only be able to add 5 skills from the other class.
gla class:
15 gla abilities + 10 cross class = 25 total
pld class:
15 gla abilities + 5 pld abilities + 5 cross class abilities = 25 total
this would have the cross class skills limited because you would only be able to use 5 total skills from other classes instead of the 10 we usually have.

All of this aside, I wouldn't mind if they limited cross-classing. For example, if you couldn't use DoW skills on DoM, and vice versa. I think that would be a fairer way to encourage "party play" than saying no cross classing or only these two jobs. I.e. you would have to have mages for cure/protect, but could still use second wind; WHM couldn't spam +def abilities and tank ifrit, but could still use Resonance or AoE Sanguine Rite the tank.
I'm all for free use of a limited number of slots, though. :]
Edit: On second thought, that would mean no Cure for the tank. D= Nvm. :P
