Emet-Selch, The Brother Hypothesis

An interesting theory, but not one I agree with. I'm personally of the mindset that Azem's Amauratine name is in fact Apollo. Why Apollo? Apollo has been attributed to many things in mythology. Archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, etc. He is also the patron deity of Delphi, where he is a god that helps those in need and wards off evil, and is also the patron of travelers of the sea, foreigners, and protects fugitives and refugees. Quite literally, Apollo has so many things under his belt in mythology that it'd make perfect sense for that to be Azem's Amauratine name.

Last time we got on the topic of true name for Azem, I definitely spent the better part of a night reading about Apollo. I do like that take, too. I'm hoping that a true name will be revealed, but I'm not sure if they will do much beyond Azem, because it might feel like taking even more player agency, sorta like when they made Ardbert's voice come outta our mouths.

As far as Apollo goes though, there's nothing as to why it couldn't be both. I mean, there's nothing that's locking them hard to be faithful to relationships in Greek mythos. Afterall, I don't think Artemis and Gaia were ever lovers in Greek Mythos.

Wow I mean I've already had my eyes checked dear and my friend is extremely picky about stuff and is a neutral party who has never played the game. Chill I saw it differently from how you saw it. Not the end of the world man.

Look, I'm sorry to cause offense, but it's really not conducive to discussion to try and pull in an unnamed third party who is clearly not neutral, as they are your friend. That just turns it into a game of pile on.

My insult is also not conducive to discussion, and it's not like I actually bear you ill will, which is why I apologize. It's just very vexing to get a string of several non-conducive posts that amount to, "I disagree! Because I don't see it that way!"

You not only insulted someone who has had to wear glasses since she was 5 years old (someone who is always getting insulted made fun of due to said fact) as well as someone of whom you don't even know.

If it's any condolence, I had to get glasses when I was 7(24 years ago, roughly). I'm very blind without them, so much so that I cannot read a screen unless I am within 4 or 5 inches of it. I was teased for the rest of elementary school, and somewhat throughout Boy Scouts due to the thickness of my lenses. My eyesight is kind of a sore point for me, too.

No problem and I do thank you for the apology. I know thick glasses too I like wire frames and I have to get the feather weight lenses because of how bad mine is. I'm farsighted with an astigmatism. When the optometrist showed my mother (who was literally beating my butt as a child for getting in people's faces) how bad my eyesight was she started bawling. Isn't bad eyesight just grand!

Edit yes I said beating but more like spanking because how can anyone 3 or older communicate very well on they can't see lol and she'd yell at me too

My peripheral is so bad with glasses, that all I see out of the corner of my eyes is the rough color and shape of things. Which is pretty much my whole vision if I take them off. I can't even see my partner's facial expressions without them during... well that's a little too far off topic.

My problems started in school. I'd been sitting at the front of class since kindergarten, and the first year I was placed further back, I couldn't read the board without squinting extremely hard. I told my mom, and she took me into the eye doc, and got me just about the dorkiest pair of glasses I've ever had, only beat out slightly by boot camp, "Birth Control Glasses." Even my older brother teased me about them, lol. That devil.

Damn I get ya with the peripheral vision with glasses everything's a colored blurr that you just need to eventually tune out.

Mm the lovely callings of 4 eyes coke bottle bottoms etc. I think what helped me a little was the fact my mom let me get these wire frames that had a picture of brainy smurf on them. Who doesn't like smurfs! Still would get those teasings though and my brothers have always been and will always be the worst of the contenders. Lol

And in any case, if it is accurate that he's ashamed to look you in the eye while saying that, how would that suggest "brothers" any more than "close friends"?

It wouldn't without prior context. The English script is what compelled my line of thought, though, and the idea that Emet-Selch had a birthright that was taken. Which, according to Moose's translation is just like people put forth earlier, he's merely speaking about reclaiming the world.

I sort of get a mandela effect about this line, because the way I remember it reading when I first went through the 5.0 story in 2019, it said birthright instead of heritage, but I think I misremembered it in my enthusiasm over time since they can be synonymous.

All in all, I'm not trying to prove it's concrete, just that signs point that way leading up to these events.

Most people seem to try and make the whole Hades, Zeus, and Poseiden connections, which is fine speculation is the spice of life, but why only Zeus and Poseidon, there are other siblings. What about Hera, Demeter, Hestia, and Chiron? And we can't go by the names themselves for the gender. Mitron's name being Artemis as an example. Though there are hints that the original Mitron might have been female, nothing is confirmed. All we can do is wait for more information at this point.

A few things.

1. He had just closed his eyes completely, and then opened them. They open to the averted gaze.

2. His gaze is still averted. He's not looking at the player character from the time he shuts his eyes, until Urianger and Y'shtola butt in.

3. Your trace or trace program hasn't accurately traced the movement of his irises to the lower right corner of his eyes, and also didn't account for shutting his eyes and reopening them. They also made his pupils too large. Nobody narrows their eyes in anger by fully shutting them and then reopening them to be pensive. It's cool that there's an ever so slight difference in his eyelids opening, maybe, but that's most certainly not the point.

I timed the two screenshots so that they werent affected by the eyes opening and closing. I also did account for the pupils moving, as you’ll see in my next post: “To me it looks like he narrows his eyes and he looks away…”

You can also take the picture and overlay the screenshots with my traces. The pupils are in the same spot as they are in the screenshots. Hell, if you want to wait 15 hours I’ll do it for you.
