I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm familiar with cancer and the plight it causes people. You are a great friend for mentioning her and posting a reddit post about a memorial.

I did not read all of the comments but for the most part I do agree with the majority of people in terms of "If we do it for you, we should do it for everyone else" and in the perspective of a game designer/dev team, we'd have a lot of people who've we lost with characters in game and it would just be... for lack of a better term, ghoulish. Heartbreaking. Sad.

However.

I do have one suggestion (if it wasn't already made) but what about honoring her in the FC by having yourself or a member fashion a retainer in her design, class etc and have her stationed outside of your FC or personal homes? I mean, the name plate above would reflect the owner of the NPC but I think that in itself would be an amazing gesture in of itself.

This is just an opinion I am sure was already mentioned and if it were, I echo that suggestion.

Once again, my sincere condolences for your loss. She sounded larger than life.

Some of the comments in this thread is one of those things where you wish you can punch people through your monitor screen.
The lack of empathy in here is unreal and can't help but feel some of these people are incredibility antisocial. Which is not uncommon in MMO's.

There is always this comment when it comes to these sort of topics.
Just because someone can't help a homeless person on the street doesn't mean they don't feel sympathy.
For example. I'm a broke ass college student when I see a homeless on the street, I can't give them food or money unfortunately but I still feel sympathy for them. I don't go HA that's what they get, or who cares they probably did something to deserve it or who cares there are a lot of homeless people.
That's the thing people are talking about here, people are showing a lack of sympathy/or empathy. They can't do anything about it but doesn't mean they can't show a shred of human decency.

Thing is often people can do something about it just make the choice not to. It is okay to put yourself first I just wish people would just own up to it and instead of make excuses as to why they cannot do anything just be honest. I will not do x because I value myself more. Though I get my approach is not agreed upon but often if we are being real the reason behind not doing x is based around just putting ourselves first not so much that we cannot.

What good would it do if you starve yourself? or if you gave too much money to a large amount of homeless, now you can't pay rent. Now you're on the street as well.
The point is feeling sympathy for someone else. That's what you're clearly not getting. But you have too much of a cynical view on the matter.

Ahh empty platitudes that does so much to warm the heart. Though let us be real I was also a poor college student but if I really wanted to I could have easily given a mans a sandwich or something without starving myself in the grand scheme.

Yeah sorry sympathy to me is just something we use to excuse the fact that often we are inherently selfish but do not want to feel bad about it. I say own up to it, or we try to statements like if we give too much how can I live etc . . .

Grow up and stop trying to armchair diagnose people. Not unless you want to accept all the consequences of that, like being called ableist for attacking someone for having a mental illness. Is that what you want?

Put your black-and-white thinking away and understand that even though people may acknowledge that someone died, it's hard to feel the magnitude of it when you literally never knew them. Yeah it's sad that someone died, but why am I expected to stop everything and mourn? I lost nothing. That's not antisocial, that's just a fact. Regular people don't get monuments made irl just because they died, so why would any player who died get a special recognition in-game? Did they do something special? Were they the first player to ever sign up in 1.0? Did they have world firsts in every raid? Did they work on the game? Were they a beacon of the entire community and visibly made the community a better place?

It hurts to hear, but most people aren't special enough to get special recognition. Demanding it from people who haven't even heard of the person who died is a bit arrogant. Sorry.
