And I love housing. I've done it in every game I've played where it was available. When I stopped playing ESO I had fully decorated six houses. This is just one of them:



In this game I can't even get an apartment because some genius decided that limited availability instead of instanced was a good idea.

The way the housing system is handled in FFXIV is abhorrent, and being constantly reminded of a system I'll never be able to participate in by getting housing items as quest rewards just makes it worse. This is a real stain on an otherwise fantastic game.

I always assumed Apt. were unlimited!

because it was designed for FC use not personal use and during a time when they never dreamed it would be this popular. It was also never designed for every player to have their own personal house. Unfortunately, as FF14 has become more popular and with especially with the recent boom of ex-wow players and the like, the slow stream of new wards doesn't do anything. This will take time and people will have to be patient. It's not as easy as "just add more supply".

Then I assume you don't know the history of a realm reborn and what the game was prior. It's actually an amazing story, you should look into it. Housing was never a focus point is FF14 at no time that I know of has there ever been a community built around housing in this game. housing, especially today and to most people, is nothing more than a trophy or a means of making A LOT of gil.

Definitely my opinion, but one that is not unfounded. If you were to take a moment to look around some of the wards on multiple servers, you'll find many many houses that are completely bare and undecorated (with the except of a mini-atheryte). I myself have several neighbors this way.
