It's not a "fantasy" game. It's a FINAL Fantasy game. This isn't your boring old European middle age fairy tale fantasy game. Final Fantasy games have always broken the mold of what's considered "fantasy." FFVII was a game about an energy concern sucking the earth dry in a dark grey steam punk city. FFVIII went from high tech garden, over 50's America Dollet over to futuristic Esthar and that's what made the games so brilliant. They go outside the box. Who says fantasy has to be about elves and goblins? You can have modern fantasy, futuristic fantasy. Fantasy just means there is some whimsical otherworldly element and Final Fantasy brings it. That's why Final Fantasy games are so adored. They break your expectations in the most delicious ways.

I hate the Casual attire with every fiber of my being and think it's both exceedingly ugly, *and* immersion breaking. However... you are absolutely correct *sigh*. That willingness to step over those lines design-wise is what separates FF from many other games.

Meanwhile Ishgard is medieval with people in gorgeous medieval-Renaissance clothing until suddenly there are orphan kiddies wearing modern stylish coats.

I don't so much mind players wearing out-of-setting things but the fact is that what gets made "for players" is then the pool of gear models that the game designers have to draw on when dressing their minor NPCs who aren't special enough to get custom outfits – and I think that shows glaringly and immersion-breakingly in the Firmament compared to the rest of Ishgard.

? I think it adds more to the immersion. After all, the world is vast, and we are travelers. We bring style and fashion to this ugly elf city. I mean have you been to a tourist spot? People stand out like sore thumbs that don't live in the area.

At my limit posting today, but ya I see point. But could it be that because they open up to adventures and such. Kids see the new fashion and mock it. After all we are heros to them right? So a kids mimics our fashion seems normal to me. Even though comes in question how they get resources to do it. lol

That's my point. It's okay for us to wear it, because we are not locals. But it's weird when they start using it for the locals, because that's the range of gear the programmers have available to dress them in.
