One thing about dodging "marker" types of incoming attacks, the displayed marker's timing is off as compared to the actual attack.
As in the attack will hit anyone within the marker a set time before the attack animation hits.... this difference in marker vs attack animation can make it appear you are suffering from PING lag or such, when you really are not.

So, if you are getting "hit" after you moved out of the marker, it means you didn't get out fast enough before the attack happened, even if it appears the animation of the attack was after you left.
Watch these mechanics and you will then get a feel for the actual amount of time your are still "safe" within a marker.
Further, you can then also determine when it is "safe" to return back into the area of the marker, still avoiding the "hit".... You may see this when a player moves out of a marker, then suddenly rushes back in just as the attack animation hits, yet they do not get hit.

Also, not every marker attack in different dungeons or zones has the same timings.
Some are longer, some are shorter, and some are a combo of seeing what the target is casting/charging or what attack pose it has, then getting out of the way before a maker even appears.

It's something you will pick up on over time with play experience, so don't be discouraged.
