    Summoner getting ganged up on

Hi! I'm pretty new to all of this. New enough to where I'm still learning the lingo.

I have a lvl 55 summoner, and I am having real trouble with solo missions where I'm ganged up on, like on a quest in Castrum Centri where I had to trigger a battle and got immediately hit by four or five enemies at once. I tried that one 5 times and died each time, until I gave up and asked someone in my FC to help me.

I'm using Ifrit-egi, Surecast, Ruin II, Bio III, everything I know to use. Physick can't keep up with the loss of HP, and I'm doing my best to stay out of AoE attacks. I've gotten some good armor via Allegan tomestones at Revenant's Toll, so my item levels are at somewhere from 70 to 130.

I'm just not sure what else I can do!

    Thanks for listening.

ETA: Thank you all SO much.

    Titan-egi gives you defensive buffs.
Upgrade your accessories to Agate / Mithrite crafted, until you can afford the tombstones to replace them with Ironworks accessories. With a full Ironwork gear set, you can go all the way to L60 and still be effectively geared.
Buy or make a https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...m/be389a2ad4c/ to replace you current Grimoire.
You will then have much greater survivability.

Also, don't forget, your Arcanist job forked to Summoner and Scholar after your L30 job quest, so you also have a L55 Healer job you can use once you unlock it
The Summoner and Scholar jobs share the same player level, so even if you level only Summoner to max, the Scholar job will also be max level, you just have to do the jobs quests and gear up with Healer gears.

Lastly, the Physick spell basically becomes fairly useless for Summoner after L30+, as it's tied to the Healing attribute Mind, of which becomes a stat that isn't gear buffed for Caster jobs (INT is the Caster main stat), so it becomes so under powered post L30 on Summoner that it is a waste of mana and time to use.
Play the Summoner as a job that out DPS's the enemies to survive the battle, in that you kill them before they kill you.
If you are not out damaging the enemy, then take note of what you are casting and what skills you are using, and try those that can dish out the damage fast and consistently.
Also, choose a pet for the right situation.
    • If enemy stays back or is occupied by a tank, use Ifrit
    • If enemies cluster, use Garuda
    • If enemies gang up on you, use Titan

Oh, one last thing, don't forget your Chocobo.... As you level it up it can become your tank, your healer, your DPS, or all three.

Doing your class quests up to 50 should net you a coffer for i90 gear so you won't have anything below that. While it's not a fantastic solution it should help. Upgrading your gear across the board should also help but hitting an enemy with your Bio & Miasma and then spreading it to grouped up mobs should assist in quelling opponent numbers quicker before your HP depletes. Physick is a terrible healing spell in a Summoners hands so I wouldn't rely on it for anyone amount of healing.

Garuda is much more beneficial to use against groups of enemies where Ifrit is better suited to single target. Titan, however, should have some sort of defensive capabilities to grant you if you feel you need more survivability over offense. Also, Tri-Disaster is your aoe attack after spreading your bio & miasma though Ruin II will allow you to maintain mobility while dealing damage.

At level 55 you should have better tools available to you to help clear this quest than you've listed, so might be a bit of a learning opportunity here.

First: Swap out Ifrit in this case for Garuda. The three summons function differently and have better uses for each situation. Ifrit excels at single target damage, Garuda for area damage, and Titan.... has always been the odd one out. He can do a little of both and can provide a shield, but you're going to be doing a lot less damage while using him. He's rarely worth pulling out.

Second: Not sure if you're doing this, but make sure you're using Bane to spread your DOTs. They're a massive part of the summoner's damage, and when you have that many enemies on you at once, you're better off trying to kill them all at once rather than take them down one by one.

Third: Related to this, it's probably a good idea to swap from using Ruin 2 over to using Outburst as it will be able to hit all the enemies in an area at once.

Fourth: Also on the AOE note, use your aetherflow stacks on Painflare rather than Fester in this case, again as Painflare will be able to hit all the enemies rather than just one. And to get those aetherflow stacks, same concept. Use Energy Siphon rather than Energy Drain. (Also all these AOE tips apply to any time you have 3+ enemies at once, especially for dungeon runs)

Since you're level 55, you should focus on Ruin 3 instead of Ruin 2 once you do get them down to 2 enemies left. Don't try to kite them around or avoid damage, as a caster you really will need to just stand there and take some of the damage. And on the note of damage, by this point, you're just wasting time trying to use Physick. Most enemies will be able to do more damage to you than that can heal since its potency will not scale up with you as you level. If you find yourself needing come clutch healing, maybe trying bringing some high quality Max Potions with you (they drop plentifully in palace of the dead, and should be cheap to buy on the market board if you don't have any already) Edit : realized you're attempting a quest where you're level synced, so you can disregard the point about using Ruin 3

Try to use your egi assault skills for when you have to move for telegraphed attacks since they're instant cast.

    Hope this helps!

I thought this might have helped at first too, but then I took at second look and she's attempting to clear one of the quests around level 49 before the two 8-man dungeons. So an item level 70 book is actually better than most players would have had access to at the time attempting to clear it. So I don't think this is an item level issue.

Additonally this is an instanced battle, so using the chocobo isn't an option.

    Titan Egi for soloing.
It used to be the tank pet, and it at least gives you defensive shields that help in the situation that you've described.
    Use the shield often

Debatable. I find for myself tacking content as a summoner, it's still better to just do more damage with garuda than to get the shield from titan. At this point I don't even have the summon titan on my bar anymore since it's better to just kill the enemy faster than to get a shield (unless I'm trying to solo content intended for a party)

The higher stats of the HW gear do work well in lower synced instances.

As for the SCH and Chocobo tips, I felt they could use that info, as looking at their character sheet, it was obvious they hadn't touched SCH, and maybe their Chocobo, so probably didn't know it was a thing.

You could turn the difficulty down to easy. I personally do it on my alts cause it just makes it quicker to get through.
