Is Lyse ugly?

If Lyse looked more like how she does in the cgi trailer during her sparring with the Warrior of Light atop of Rhalgr's Reach and also still retained some noticeable traits of her Yda persona, like her bubbly/nonchalant attitude, I think she would have been a much more appealing character. Especially if we got to see visions of her past from when she escaped Ala Mhigo and when she meant Papalymo and the Scions/Circle of Knowing.

I just really like how in the cgi trailer, you can tell just from the giddy smile on Lyse's face when she tries to kick the Warrior of Light from behind, that you could tell its "Yda". Meanwhile, in the game, she hardly acts like that and is usually either brooding or very serious until the end of Stormblood.

I just wish/hope in Endwalker and beyond we get to see more of that carefree personality she used to have as Yda, as I felt that Lyse was at her most comfortable as a character when she acted like that.

I think that it does make some sense that she's more serious due to the circumstances.
I also think that she gets way too much shit for it while people think that male characters that are all brooding and ultra serious are cool.
It's kinda the same with Minfillia too, people give her way too much shit and the same criticism could be thrown at other characters too.

With that said tho I do agree with your overall sentiment and I really like Yda/ Lyse still ( MNK bias tho ).
But I do prefer her Yda persona.
I can kinda understand the more serious tone in Stormblood too tho I mean how much time did Alphinaud for example spend being emo?
My hope is that her arc is not completed and that we'll see more of her in Endwalker too.
And if that's the case I don't think that Stormblood will be remembered as poorly in that regard when you have the whole picture.

I mean imagine if all that you had of Alphinaud was when he was being sad and depressed, people wouldn't like him either.
And the CG trailer is indeed the Lyse I want to see, she can still be serious when shit hits the fan and when necessary.

I would say less of it having to do with her being more serious and more having to do with Lyse going from how she usually was as Yda to suddenly being so serious all the time. Like you, I didn't mind the change in personality, as Yda was just her persona until Stormblood. But it still would have been nice to see glimpses of the old Yda we know and love in between the moments where Lyse had to be serious, like you said.

Ooh, most definitely! Ala Mhigo is still stuck on the front lines with the Garlean Empire, so we might see more of Lyse's development! Personally, I'd love to see her come with us to Garlamald in order to help her get the extra character development she needs that she unfortunately didn't get in Stormblood. A healthy balance of the plucky Yda and more serious Lyse would be a nice combination/evolution to see in Lyse's personality in Endwalker!
