One personal house per world/account will still remain in place. No use entering on alts when you really want the house on your main and your characters can't share a house.

It's a harder to sell a house to other players when you purchase it as a personal house because you'd be limited to relocators that want that specific plot. If you end up with the crappiest plot in Goblet, your investment just failed.

Players using shell FCs to flip won't be able to compete for a house in the personal wards.

People are really dumb when it comes to lotteries. They only think "I might get lucky this time and if I buy more tickets I'll be even luckier!" instead of thinking about how the lottery works.

If there are 5000 entries and you enter on 4 characters, that's still 4996 chances that someone else will win and only 4 chances you will (assuming a winner is even guaranteed). You haven't improved your chances enough to make a worthwhile difference.

We don't know if they will or won't. They might feel that players with multiple alts (and more gil) are more invested in the game and so deserve the chance to buy those additional tickets. It's still not going to bypass the one personal house per world rule.

If they do allow multiple entries per account, the player would have to come up with the entry fee separately for each character. They've already told us there will be a substantial deposit required to enter, and a substantial penalty if we win then fail to purchase a house.

Most players will stick to a single entry because there's no real advantage to additional tickets and they're going to have a hard time coming up with the additional entry fees.

Which can't be done anymore thanks to the one personal house per world rule enacted over 3 years ago. Someone who has multiple houses for RP purposes is highly unlikely to use shell FCs to get more.

I'm honestly hoping this stardew valley/harvest thing they showcased is a single house housing system where you can pay Gil to upgrade your home form small to large, decorate the outside and in, and so on. You can only visit it if the person is a friend or in party witn you, via invitation. It would do a lot to fix the problems with housing. Wards can remain as they are (and the new upcoming wards) but it doesn't lock anyone else out from housing and there are people who want to have their houses on display like they are now and would pay for that privilege.

It's far less investment on the player to submit an entry to a lottery than to spam a placard for hours, so ultimately it's a much needed QOL.
For someone with a busy schedule, even finding an available plot can feel akin to spotting a unicorn in the wild and actually acquiring one without botting might as well be an act of catching lightning in a bottle.

Sure, you can exercise moderation and prioritize your health by only clicking a placard sparingly, but due to the sheer force and numbers of the competition involved(Many of which are just plain cheating at this point) you'd essentially be absolving yourself of any real desire to get a house due to how obscenely low your chances of acquiring one would be.

I don't believe any system would be perfect, but with random timer windows being as long and varied as they are now the system had to go.
I believe the current system could be salvaged by merely drastically reducing the overall length of the random timers, but I still feel a lottery system is a more practical solution.

The theoretical statistical disdvantage of acquiring a plot with a lottery system could easily be resolved by aplying a relatively small hard cap on how many entries can be submitted toward an individual plot, such as 50 for smalls and 100/ 200 for mediums and larges respectively(Just to give an example).
Having only a small amount of competing buyers and not the whole server would preserve some of the 'first come, first serve' nature initially intended for acquiring housing while still limiting house reselling.

All of this, is under the notion that Square Enix is refusing to address the real crux of the housing crisis - demand of houses far surpassing the supply.
I'm not going to tell people to cease asking for more housing or a new housing system(Such as instanced), but the practical truth is any improvements are better than none.
The fact that many, many players current resort to cheating to acquire a house and other have been extremely vocal with their criticism of the current acquisition method of housing, it's quite apparent why SE has resorted to a lottery system.

TLDR; I'd love for there to be enough housing for players but I'll take a lottery system over the current mess we have now.
