you'd be surprised at how many high level players think like that, just look at the (I think?) dungeon pet peeve thread where you'll see people defend their "you pull you tank it" griefing :PI suspect this is the same case for many new tanks, they see themselves as the 'leader', they are 'the most important' and it is that mentality that causes the whole 'you pull it, you tank it'. They just need to realise they are actively hindering more than helping.
It is also worth noting that this sort of behaviour does tend to drop off at higher levels. I never have problems in higher duties when mistakes happen, people just adapt and if someone is constantly being a hinderance by not following advice, that is when people get more frustrated.
I don't think it's a level thing, but rather a childish ego thing
