Always felt FFXIV aesthetics and maybe FF in general has a more "grounded" look to their maps where WoW always has a more heavily stylized "fantasy" look to their maps. I don't think either one is better than the other but simply a matter of preference.

14’s world just feels dead to me. Like, it shocks me how they couldn’t do something so simple as just have random adventurers walking about in ARR. I was just talking with a friend last night about EW, and how yknow, there’s supposed to be monsters pouring from the sky etc, but really we all know the only thing that’s gonna change is some background scenery. The supposed monsters pouring out of the sky are just gonna be random mobs moving around on the ground lmao. 14 was my first major mmo, but i really can’t bring myself to feel attached to any zones in particular besides one and it was clearly the zone they spent the most time in. I feel like if you have to use mods or something like “reshade” to make the game look better, you’re kind of already proving the point. Like someone else stated, i’ve really been looking forward to thavnair for years, but it just looks like they planted random trees and some random water sources and called it a day. It’s disappointing. It's weird to me too that, these other mmo's have been able to update their graphics, while still being able to push out new content. Afaik it never really comes at a cost to other things whereas with 14 everything has a cost.

ARR zones look way more lived in and aesthetically pleasing than later expansions open world ones, I wish they'd go back to that style of world building

FF areas don't need to look like someone coughed up an entire color pallet. It looks like it should. There are similar mmo's that do the same thing and it works just fine.

Oddly enough, there are other players on these forums who, in the past, complained at the blandness of ARR zones, who are much more enthusiastic about newer zones.

    Aesthetics is extremely personal.

I've never played WoW cause it ain't on console and I doubt it will be, but 14 was my 1st mmo and ESO was my 2nd, and I must say in ESO I love the way Summerset looks, and in FFXIV I love how
    Azim Steppe looks.

But they could have sharper textures, bump mapping and SSAO. You have often so bad texture quality and low polygon count that it looks like an early pre-alpha of a game or a game from 2002.

It is a matter of personal taste. If you like cartoon style graphics you will love wow. If you like FFXIV graphics you will like this game. But to declare it looks extremely bad and out dated is to say look at me I want attention. Know people will disagree with you. If you are not happy there is always the other game. I don't think you know what games looked like back then. Not saying it can't be improved, but this is pretty disingenuous.

Yeah I get that textures are bad in some places and could be optimized, that's a fair assessment. But PS2-era graphics? These people should play FFXI and see an actual PS2-era MMO.
