Hi, I'm unable to start the Guardian of Eorzea quest battle. I've been waiting in a queue for over 30 minutes. Current place in line has went from 30 to 17.

Have a check in your duty settings to ensure you have all available languages checked that way you will be matched with more players.
It's a solo duty, not a party dungeon, trial, or raid, so the OP's queue isn't the result of waiting on other players to join.
It is due to the current "rush" of new players who joined close to about the same time and who are progressing through the MSQ at roughly the same rate. Side effect is that the load on instance servers is very high, meaning a player must wait until enough players have finished the solo duty in order to get their slot on the instance server.
To the OP, just be patent.
To SE, probably a good idea to start up the Zone Instances 1~3 for Mor Dohna and other spots on the MSQ zones where a player must do a solo instance, especially for ARR.
Oh my bad!
It's the overworked instance servers then - sorry I assumed by queue it meant for a duty.
*writes out a 1000 times never assume*
Hehe... No worries... and your advise was good too.
Expanding your Duty Finder options to include all languages does help a bit in reducing queue time.
Also, you can enable the option to join a duty in progress, that way you jump the line in queue to fill a spot were someone has dropped out or was booted from a party that was already in duty/raid/dungeon/trial.
