I probably got like, around 800 of my commendations being a cure and medicabot and probably around 200 of being a tank that popped multiple cooldowns at the same time and didn't try to space them out between pulls, so no, you don't really have to learn how to play your class to get them and the crown

You said "A lot of people commend healers or tanks by default." You have to play a healer and a tank to become a battle mentor anyway is my point.

Being a mentor just mean that you are able to provide some basic information to new players like "drk is a tank", that doesnt mean that you are a skilled player or anything else

    commendations just mean /playtime

The entry barrier is only too thin in that commendations alone aren't a good judge of how good you are as a player – but any sort of actual suitability test is either too resource-intensive or too "tell them what they want to hear" to be worthwhile.

More comms required just means that people will grind more to earn their trinket crown, while those who genuinely want to be involved as mentors are locked out of the system for longer.

Across all my characters I've earned enough commendations to meet the requirements several times over, but only one has enough individually to be allowed in. The requirement to have done 1000 dungeons was slow going too.

more rewards, more prizes? sure. it's a game. if you do a lot of anything, it would be nice to have a prize (i'm looking at you Lifer III achieve, which has 0 prizes not even a title >.>) but you cannot keep increasing the barrier to entry to something like mentor status, because that just bars newer players, no matter how good they are and no matter how much they really want to mentor. it takes time to get 1500 comms and would take even longer to get 3000, for example. i mean, this is the reason veteran rewards failed (we still have them, they just stopped adding new ones). i mean, if they kept adding veteran rewards we'd get new players who see something cool and think, "oh, lame, i can't have that until i've been playing for five years. no matter what?"

OP has no clue what the word "mentor" really means.

I can't help but feel like if anyone has earned the right to be called a mentor, it's me, and all others like me, and we should be represented as such
Feel however you want, it doesn't mean that you are right though. People don't need any comms to become real mentors, to be the people who teach others how to play. I grinded the 1,5k comms in two months time to have the icon because it was a requirement. If it wasn't I wouldn't be bothered at all. You can have 100k comms for all I know but that doesn't make you a better player or mentor than the one with 100 comms.

And? There is tons of stuff wich a new player will never be able to obtain like pre-order bonus items, bonus items from some merch, old Feast mounts, stuff from collaboration events (Garo, the the white cloud mount and white fat Chocobo) and of course all the 1.0 stuff.

I really don't see any reason why the veteran rewards need to be the exception here, especially since people are not locked out forever like with the other stuff anyway.

However, I agree that the mentor system should not be locked behind a years long grind. But more rewards after the fat Chocobo you get for 3000 commendations would be nice. Give us another mount for 5000 and a title for 10000 or so.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

The opposite, the game should not have rewards for commendations with how the system works on it. Let alone a requirement for mentor.
You can get commendations for any reasons, you could not do any mechanics, even stealth afk and you can still get it for whatever.
You can get lucky and join an instance where 7 people are premade and get 7 comms and so on.

I got a ton of commendations when I started this game because I was a tank and no matter what, I would still get it. No it wasn't just due to me being new, dps players would never get their comms no matter how much work they put in.

Guildhests are a commendation farming ground due how short they are.

Commendations are a joke, it does feel nice getting one but i think they just need to be set as its own fun thing, being able to vote multiple people in party and not have any rewards.

But my point was that even if you can play all 3 roles, DPS is the one that'll always get you the least amount of comms. It had nothing to do with whether having a tank and a healer is a requirement for mentorship. For example, I can play all 3 roles, but I personally prefer going as BRD because it's the class I enjoy the most and because I'm hoping for faster runs thanks to good DPS.

To explain my previous post better, if the OP was playing healer or tank, it was a given they'd end up with so many comms, but that doesn't mean they're better than another person who mostly plays DPS (despite being able to play all 3 roles) and thus most likely has fewer comms.

I don't think there needs to be any reward. Reward is the happy sprout saying thank you in public chat, at least for me.

I don't mind if they add more rewards for commendations but certainly not necessary.
