Since you have to level a tank and a healer to become a battle mentor, that just motivates you to actually learn how to play these other two roles. Not gonna lie, commendations in the game don't always mean much. If you're a DPS, you most likely won't be the one getting the comms no matter how much you shine. A lot of people commend healers or tanks by default. So basically, the comms themselves don't necessarily mean you're a good player or a helpful person.
I don't get how this is related to what I said in my post.
Anyway you can level both those roles, but the role you enjoy playing is DPS.

But my point was that even if you can play all 3 roles, DPS is the one that'll always get you the least amount of comms. It had nothing to do with whether having a tank and a healer is a requirement for mentorship. For example, I can play all 3 roles, but I personally prefer going as BRD because it's the class I enjoy the most and because I'm hoping for faster runs thanks to good DPS.
To explain my previous post better, if the OP was playing healer or tank, it was a given they'd end up with so many comms, but that doesn't mean they're better than another person who mostly plays DPS (despite being able to play all 3 roles) and thus most likely has fewer comms.

Commendation rewards are something they should keep going in general.
Also: Veteran rewards, chocobo companion system, job-based hunting logs
At this point:
Commendation rewards for 3000+ instances are commensurate with other rewards for doing X. They also have caps.
The chocobo companion system was a huge gil sink, and your companion is now maxed out at rank 20 as far as "things it can do and damage it can take". At over 150k per Thavnarian Onion, it became super-expensive to level your companion between 10 and 20.
I highly suspect that job-based hunting logs were replaced in ARR by daily Hunts (since there was a 2 year span where you couldn't hunt anything else for your job). Since these rewarded far more in 'tokens' to purchase gear, etc. the hunting logs became obsolete. Why do them when a simple trip to the MSQ Roulette will net you more XP for less time?
They discontinued adding more Veterans rewards 4 years ago. You actually don't have to be subscribed for as long to get the gear rewards. The other rewards (mounts, minions) are available using Achievement vouchers, and those vouchers buy everything available in a short period of being online. SE no longer needs to encourage us to continue playing their game by invoking some kind of loyalty program.
One might as well ask "Why don't they continue to develop Eureka in 2021?".
I probably got like, around 800 of my commendations being a cure and medicabot and probably around 200 of being a tank that popped multiple cooldowns at the same time and didn't try to space them out between pulls, so no, you don't really have to learn how to play your class to get them and the crown![]()
