The reason bag and retainer space is limited is because it needs to keep track of many individual variables for multiple items. Statuses like durability require every piece of gear to be tracked, and having a crafted item gives it a unique ID to feature the crafters' name.

    Raw materials, as well as bait, do not require any extra data besides quantity. HQ and NQ file in as their own items. If they were to be treated like crystals are, they would fall into this "inventory" and not behave as objects unless pulled out of this menu. It wouldn't be until these materials are used that they would need to be put into our inventory/saddlebag/retainer as they have changed state into something crafted. Just like how we pull crystals from the crystal menu to make items.

    It'd be nice to have something bait could go in automatically but their reasoning is sound. They don't want to add single-use inventory, so instead add inventory for everyone and we decide how to use it. A lot of us turned our chocobo saddlebag into our tackle box. It's a nice big convenient inventory that works perfectly for it.

    Isnt inventory supposed to be something limited and we have to manage anyway, i rather have the dev expand inventory outright or give 1 more retainer, even now i have 4 fish bait that i havent used for 3 months or perhaps more in my inventory......... should have throw them away if i didnt use them but oh well......

    I wonder if YoshiP every commented on this in the past.

    One part of me has always wanted a independent tackle box separate from the inventory system (this is the impulsive me),

    The other part of me knows i shouldn't have to carry every bait with me, although for a long time i did just that in the early days.

    The new all-in-one fishing ball baits were implemented to sort of alleviate that impulse of wanting to lug around all those ARR and HW baits.

    So yes there was certainly a time I wanted what people here are asking for, but those new baits were the compromise I think to people asking for a independent tacklebox.

    Dunno if it’s been asked yet, but could someone explain to me how they can’t increase our inventory space but can somehow manage to add more retainers with their inventory space so long as you pay money? How does that work exactly?

    I'm sorry, I still don't follow.
    What do you mean they store the data as a menu?
    How is it different than the way they store the data of, say, a glamour prism?

    He has repeatedly said it will never happen.
    If they were to add more space to hold items they will add space you can use for any item (like the chocobo saddle bag), and not space you can only use for specific things (like a tackle box).

    As I understand it those retainers are maintained on a different server.
    The items you actually have in your person are tracked and checked pretty often as you adventure, so it's difficult to let people hold more when they would balloon everything the game is keeping track of, especially as your inventory literally moves with your character as you move in and out of instances and the game is moving your characters data between servers.
    But retainers, like your glamour dresser, do not do this. Their data is held on another server, doesn't move like our own inventories do, and you just interface with their inventories through menus through the bells.

    Sounds like if baits, and also dyes, were removed entirely it would alleviate server strain.

    And on that note. Dye rework when.
